  • Quiet and friendly family site on a farm four miles from Bodmin
  • Five miles from the Eden Project and 30 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Within easy reach of the Camel Trail cycle route and other bike paths
No bright lights, no noisy clubhouse and no rigid rules… just peace, quiet and a mightily friendly vibe in a stargazing and cycling haven close to Bodmin and the Eden Project – sound just splendid? Then pitch yourself up at Mena Farm. Run by Ali and Neil, Mena is a family-friendly farm site in central Cornwall, five miles from Bodmin and the Eden Project and eight from St Austell. This is cracking cycling country, with several bike routes running from or near the site and the 18 scenic miles of the family-friendly Camel Trail reachable at Bodmin. Going beachwards, Fowey on the south coast and Newquay on the north are both within half an hour's drive. For days on site, ramble your way over to the wilder corners of Mena for den building and wildlife spotting (species to spy include badgers, rabbits, deer and buzzards), or trundle along to meet the pigs and chickens; egg collecting assistance is most welcome. By night, the combo of clear skies and lack of blazing lights on the park means there's some stellar stargazing to be had. Barbecues and campfires are – of course – allowed at this laidback place, so you can add sausages (and cider?) to your astronomical exploits. Ali and Neil have added a play area and a barn with games, books and a TV to further aid idling, and the mini market sells a good range of essentials to sort supplies without stirring from the grounds; you can also – how fab – get fish and chips delivered right to your pitch.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The owners were really lovely and friendly. Nice, level pitches. It was quiet when we were there so they let us choose a pitch. Good, clean facilities. We would definitely visit again.

Disliked: We wondered if there would be enough facilities if they were full. It was perfect when we were there.

From the manager: Hi Cara - thank you for leaving us such a lovely review. I saw your question re facilities, and yes, we have enough loos/showers/washbasins/washup sinks for a 60-pitch site (6 x showers, 8 x loos, 8 x washbasins). But as we only operate on 45 pitches we rarely, if ever, have queues for anything, even in the middle of the peak Summer weeks. It was lovely to meet you all and really do hope to see you all again another time. With kindest regards, Ali & Neil

Winter electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Wow, this place is stunning. This is hands down the cleanest and most beautiful campsite we have ever stayed at in 50 years of camping. The place is pristine. We can't even keep our garden as well tended as this site is. We didn't travel with children but there is a lovely children's area and they can visit the pigs on the farm. There is no on site club house and to be honest I loved that. However there is a large games room with pool tables, comfy couches etc. The pitches are huge which was great as we were trialling a HUGE tent. The owners were so helpful and went out of their way to help us. We had brought the wrong cable for electricity hook up. On the first night it was sooo cold and we nipped out the following day to buy extra bedding. The owner told us if she'd known she would have loaned us some. Both owners are just adorable and so helpful. On site there is even a EV charger, charging 30p pkh less than the services so we were made up! We spent the whole visit sending photos of site to family as we were so happy with the site.

Disliked: There wasn't a single thing to dislike here and if we could have given 20/10 instead of 10/10, we would have.

From the manager: Hi Amanda - thank you, thank you, thank you for the lovely review and photos. It's very much appreciated, and especially since the weather was so changeable during your stay. It was truly lovely to meet you both and so happy that you chose to spend your anniversary at our little site. Please do come back another time - we'd love to see you both again. Take care and all the very best, Ali & Neil

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly hosts, good sized pitches, beautifully clean (uni sex) showers, sinks and toilets, great facilities including a laundry, games/chill out barn and kids' play area, quiet location and good views. The WiFi and the TV reception were also great (although there were only a couple of other vans on the site at the time).

Disliked: The lane to the site was pretty narrow. It was fine for our van conversion but I wouldn't fancy getting a wide caravan down it.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jill - many thanks for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. Yes, access to Mena is via a traditional Cornish lane, but I'm wondering you followed sat nav to get here? If so, it will have brought you through a particularly narrow and winding route to the site. If you follow the directions on the website, or follow the brown tourists signs, then it will bring you to the site along a stretch of lane with plenty of passing spaces. We've never experienced any problems with guests towing on this route. I'm glad to hear though that this didn't impact adversely on your stay at Mena, and really do hope to see you again another time. With kindest regards, Ali & Neil

Winter electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Used as a base for our camper van for a wet February week in Cornwall. Site was in winter mode so only a handful of us on the few hard standing pitches, good clean facilities, hot showers and lovely views. Electricity is metered, with a generous daily portion (10kw) included in fee. Even with electric heating on in van, we were comfortably within that so nothing extra to pay. Take a torch as there’s minimal lighting on site but this afforded us the most beautiful view of the stars on the one clear night! Overall a lovely clean quiet site.

From the manager: Hi David - many thanks for your kind review. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we're very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay here at Mena. Yes, we don't have any extra lighting around the site so that people can enjoy the skies at night - we're very lucky not to have any light pollution, so perfect for star-gazing, and we're glad that you were able to experience this. Hope to see you both another time. With kindest regards, Ali & Neil

Liked: Lovely landscaped site. Spacious hard standing , electric pitch. Neil welcomed us and gave us pitch 8. Friday night is fish night for us. Neil did the chippy run for us which was really good of him. Ali delivered our tea the door of our motorhome. Service with a smile. Excellent facilities. Grandsons loved the games barn .

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The lovely welcome, the very attractive surroundings, spotless facilities, and the field was great for the dog (and us) to have a good walk around. It’s also a convenient base from which to explore the area being so near to the Eden project, Lanhydrock, Cardinham Woods and various beaches. Thank you for a great stay and we look forward to returning in the future!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Large size pitches, loads of space, toilet/shower block was unisex but very well done, plenty warm water for the shower. Clean well kept. Wash up area under cover in a separate building everything you need. Freezer for freezing ice blocks. Had no electric hook up so hired battery bank to charge my phone £1 per day and refundable deposit of £10 when it was returned. Big enough to charge the phone 3 times and refill my battery bank to half.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.
