  • Family park a mile from Widemouth Bay and 10 minutes' drive from Bude
  • Dogs welcome
  • Laundry room and shop for snacks and camping supplies
Families, kids, beach buffs and even the family dog might whoop about the location and facilities of Widemouth Fields in Cornwall…. it's a firmly family- and dog-friendly park, surrounded by Cornish countryside views, and a mile from the surf at Widemouth Bay. The amenities are free and up to date: showers and toilets are here, along with – a nice touch – chemical disposal and washing-up area both set indoors. The park also has armfuls of tourist information at reception, a coin-operated launderette, and a shop selling camping supplies, gas, groceries, games, confectionery and ice-cream. Just note that the shop is only open when the site is busy – at other times you'll need to use the small shop 20 minutes' drive away. Widemouth Fields has wifi at reception for a small additional fee.

Liked: This was the worst holiday we have ever had. The site was closed. It was also unmanned. The toilet and shower block were unclean a not serviced. There was some random stranger staying in a static caravan that finally gave me a barrier code to get in with. We looked up the site after on Google and found out it’s apparently gone into liquidation. This £250 your offering to win should be my refund and compensation. Far from happy

Disliked: As above. No likes at all.

Liked: Quite

Disliked: Had to wait 30 min to get the code for the barrier as there was no one onsite to let us in. Had to phone several times to get through to anyone but the person on the phone was very friendly.

Liked: Having almost an entire campsite to ourselves.

Disliked: On arrival at 3pm we could not get pass the entrance barrier with no answer on the intercom. The site reception was closed and no staff could be found on site, made multiple phone calls to the 2 numbers provided, mobile number went straight to voicemail each time 2nd number was a call centre where I got through to a person who said they’d put me through to the site and cut me off, a couple more attempts and I got back through to them where they told me they would look into it and phone me back… they never did. During this time another couple who had also booked via pitch up arrived, they had also began trying to get in contact with the site owners. After about 40 minutes the other couple were able to obtain the access code for the barrier. With nobody around to tell us where we should go we chose our own pitch and set up camp. As it was only us and the other couple we had plenty to choose from. Luckily the power was on and the wash room and toilet facilities were unlocked, these facilities could do with a bit of TLC and a deep clean but were usable. No shop on site as advertised. The following morning we were approached by a couple of maintenance staff who were surprised to see us there as they had been told by their management the site was closed for camping this year!!!

Liked: Nice views from the pitch and walking around a quiet site. Plenty of hot water in the shower block. A great site to visit Bude.

Disliked: Really enjoyed our stay but the hard standing could be improved slightly to avoid walking mud into the motorhome; that said we experienced exceptionally high rainfall and would definitely go to Widemouth Fields again.

Liked: It was a clean campsite and the pitch six was great. We had enough space for the children to play and it was very well tended to. There was no evening entertainment but this was not a requirement for us.

Liked: The site was in a lovely location, close to Bude and very handy for day trips out to lots of different places. It was nice and quiet with lovely views out of the front of our tent. Showers and wash up area was clean and easy to find/use. Pitch had a great drive which meant we could park up easily and electric hookup was nice and close.

Disliked: The shower block was handy but the ladies had water all over the floor and was a bit of a liability. There was a sign saying they had a leak but that was there all week and I’m struggling to believe that nobody could fix that leak quite quickly and easily.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Rachel Thank you for your review & feedback we are delighted to found the park and pitches along with our facilities met your expectations. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused by the leak in the ladies showers & toilets sadly due to nature of the leak being under the concreate floor it is a little more tricky to repair and has required us to source a builder & plumber who can complete the required work together at the same time this also requires us closing down the facilities block while this work is completed and had to give notice of cancellation of any guests who had booked during this time. The repair is scheduled for later this week. I can assure you however the area was fully risk assessed and we had procedures in place to ensure the safety of our guests and staff including increased clearing of excess water, non-slip water containment mats. Once again we our apologies for any inconvenience that may have caused during you stay however we have worked to ensure we complete the required work as quickly as possible with our 3rd party contractors. We thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback it is important to us and thank you for choosing to stay at Widemouth Fields

Liked: Loved the area, ideally situated for all access to things to do around Bude. Showers and washing facilities were all clean and looked fresh. The sight had a real family friendly atmosphere and very safe and secure.

Disliked: Could do with a kids play area on site and couldn’t get wifi at tent pitch.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi David Thank you for your feedback it's great to hear you enjoyed you stay with us and that you rated our facilities highly. We are in the process of currently finding a new WIFI Supplier and hope to have this work completed in the very near future. We hope you will visit us again as we continue to grow and improve the park. Kind Regards Matt

Local attractions

Take your pick and off you go: Cornwall has something for all flavours including world-class beaches, spectacular surf, gorgeous golf courses, wildlife-crammed nature reserves, theme parks, gardens, and old old legends to delve into. Pick a seaside town per day to investigate its beaches, coves, restaurants and its section of the South West Coast Path: Bude, Boscastle (Witchcraft Museum), Tintagel (King Arthur and castle) and Clovelly in Devon (famous and cameraworthy) are all easily accessible from Widemouth Fields, or you could drive a little further to Port Isaac and Padstow, both on the way to Newquay. At Bude, four days might be needed, one for each of its beaches – Summerleaze, Sandymouth, Crackington Haven and Crooklets; all smashing – and there's a good bit to do here for kids too, including an indoor pool with flume, bowling, a six-storey indoor play centre, and an outdoor activities centre for them to try kayaking or boogie boarding. Away from the seaside towns, Crealy Great Adventure Park at Tredinnick between Newquay and Wadebridge is one of Cornwall's best-known family attractions, as is the mighty Eden Project to the south-east just outside St Austell. In Devon, Exmoor Zoo should prove a hit with most families, and RHS Rosemoor Gardens at Great Torrington is blooming with things to see and do.
