  • Family-friendly Cornwall site with lots to do for all ages
  • Dogs welcome, with a dog-walking field on site
  • Heated outdoor pool, paddling pool, playground and games room
Ever felt you really wanted to let loose? And – even better – let the kids run about safely while you bask on a sun-soaked terrace in a suntrap valley, sipping a cocktail from the on-site bar? Why, one can almost hear the ice cubes clinking from here… Don’t get uptight at the thought of Cornwall being crowded in peak season: award-winning and family-friendly Calloose Caravan Park has over eight and a half acres of countryside at Hayle near St Ives, and is designed for those who want to get away from the hordes. And for dogs: the park is dog friendly, with fields on site for walkies. The park is teeming with things to do: free-spirited sprogs will be well set for stuff to keep them busy, between the paddling pool, playground, multisports and all-weather court, and a games room with pool table, driving and shooting games and gift machines. Naturally the grownups are smartly catered for too: as well as the spacious sunbathing terrace, non-kids have a heated pool, a bar, a takeaway and a shop selling hot and cold food plus drinks, as well as other essentials, and – although the youngsters won’t be interested – a launderette, a recycling point and chemical waste points at each toilet block. The Calloose team prides itself on its customer service and attention to detail, and the entire park is also carefully landscaped to welcome local wildlife and flowers – even the most Xbox-gripped youngster might be persuaded to let loose…

Liked: Compact site with good facilities, clean and modern. Felt very safe and family friendly

Disliked: We were the furthest pitch so Wi-Fi didn’t reach our tent, although it did keep the kids off of their devices!

Liked: Great site with lovely staff, clean well kept grounds and brilliant facilities. We were there at the same time as lots of our friends so loads of children with different ages and families with different needs and everyone had something to do. We’ll definitely be back :)

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The pool was lovely, heated and not too deep for the kids. Arcade, apart from the mess, my little one loved it in there. Park is lovely and seating area by park. Shame about the dog poo dotted around the outskirts of the park.

Disliked: Dirty shower blocks and toilets, even first thing in the morning. Poo all over toilets pretty much every time I went into the block. Dog poo around the grass area right by the park. Lack of children’s entertainment, always adult entertainment. Take away, very disorganised, orders late, wrong food, and very stressed staff ( who were always so kind ) but bogged under due to no system in place. Arcade- disgusting, litter all over the floor, even first thing in the morning. Cleanliness for poor through out the whole site…

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Pool was good for the kids.

Disliked: Tried the takeaway and the pizza was undercooked. Very doughy and inedible to be honest. That was after 45 minutes’ wait. The pool timings were pretty lame. I don’t understand not opening until 10am when the kids get up early. I don’t buy that it has to rune the filter for a certain number of hours a night. No log burners which is a shame. Pitches very close together. Shower was next to a toilet which stank really badly. It’s ok if you want to go to the pub and drink whilst your kids go to the arcade. I’m not sure that’s what camping is supposed to be about though.

Disliked: Booked a gravel pitch but didn’t get it due to website error apparently. Poor state of grass pitch (muddy). Not the cleanest of facilities. Nothing like the pictures on website.

Route directions

Travelling to Calloose is much easier now that you have the M5 to Exeter and a motorway style dual carriageway to Bodmin. There are only 20 miles of ordinary carriageway roads remaining to our park. Leave the A30 at the roundabout north of Hayle and drive through the town until you see the large viaduct. Drive under the first arch and turn left at the small roundabout and take the B3302 road towards Helston. Leedstown is 3.5 miles along this road. Do not follow your satnav at this point. Just before Leedstown (if coming from Hayle), turn left down Trenerth Road. Calloose is at the bottom of the hill. Turn left onto the lane where flagpoles and signs are situated. Follow the lane until you reach the caravan park. The reception is signposted. Calloose is located centrally within west Cornwall. St Ives is only 9 miles away, Penzance only 10 miles, Lizard Point 18 miles, and Newquay only 25 miles away. Please note that public transport is limited in this area of Cornwall.

Local attractions

Pack your wetsuit, your swimsuit, your walking boots and your glad rags to soak up the contrasts of beautiful and active Cornwall, with most of the main attractions within easy driving distance; and eye-watering scenery, coastline and teeny towns and villages all within reach. You might want to throw your golf clubs and fishing gear into the car boot or caravan too: there are five spectacularly scenic golf clubs within ten miles of Calloose, from the challenging seaside course of the West Cornwall Golf Club three and a half miles away, to England’s most southerly course, Mullion Golf Club at Helston. Fishing holidays are available all over and easy to arrange, including coarse and reservoir fishing (the rainbow trout-filled waters of Tree Meadow Trout Fishery are just half a mile from Calloose), and sea fishing from a hi-tech boat that can detect passing shoals as well as possible shipwrecks below the surface. Or venture west to the 140 or so islands of the gorgeous Isles of Scilly by ferry from Penzance or air from Penzance or Land’s End to see the capital St Mary’s or the world famous gardens at Tresco. The beaches of Cornwall are rightly world famous and you could spend your whole break around the craggy beauty of the north or the subtropical sands of the south. Calloose is centrally based, so pick a beach a day and work on your tan: the Towans at Hayle, three miles of golden sands, are 3.4 miles away; the surf of Praa Sands within six miles and Porthkidney/Lelant beach within seven miles (mussel foraging here is highly recommended). Elsewhere within a quick drive you’ll reach beautiful Marazion – take a trip from here to the island of St Michael’s Mount – and the family-friendly surfing beaches of Portleven and Portreath. St Ives, Cornwall’s arty capital, is just over nine miles from Calloose: visit the acclaimed gallery Tate St Ives to see almost 70,000 works of art from 3000 artists, including the national collection of British art. Nearby Newlyn is also known for its art – it was a popular artists' haunt in the 19th century. Top off your cultural tour with a visit to the Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, carved from the clifftop and with the feel of a Roman amphitheatre.
