  • Spacious site between farm and woodland on the Lizard Peninsula
  • A couple of minutes' drive from Mullion and five miles from Helston
  • Two shower and toilet blocks with free hot water
Mulling over a trip to Cornwall but want to avoid the hordes? Pitch up at peaceful Franchis Holiday Park just outside the village of Mullion on the lovely Lizard Peninsula, where generously-sized accommodation areas across four acres mean you’ll never know the peril of having a stranger snoring two feet away from your precious precious face. No promises there about rumbling snores from your other half... Franchis Holiday Park is set between farm and woodland, with well-kept amenities including two shower and toilet blocks with free hot water, a free freezer for ice packs, a launderette usable for a small extra charge, and numerous taps all around to save a long walk in the morning to fill up the kettle (always a bonus). For shops or eating out, Mullion is within a couple of minutes’ drive and the town of Helston is five miles away; tourist info is on site too if you want to head further afield. Books are around to borrow too if you’ve forgotten your bedtime reading, but you’ll have to read by torchlight as lighting on the site is kept to a minimum for full appreciation of the night sky and the local wildlife. Reading by torchlight while bats and owls fly and hoot overhead? Now that’s also a bonus…

Local attractions

It’s Cornwall, so the area around Franchis Holiday Park is laden with beaches, coves, sightseeing, surfing and walking: just south of Mullion village lie the Predannack Downs with cliffs along to fab Kynance Cove, and the South West Coast Path runs a couple of miles from the site. The River Helford and its valleys are a few miles to the east; look out for Frenchman’s Creek, used as the setting for Daphne Du Maurier’s historical novel of the same name. Comely villages are dotted all around this part of the west Cornwall coastline too, including the old fishing village of Cadgwith and its 300 year old Cadgwith Cove Inn, dishing up lobster and seafood landed that day. Mullion, closest to Franchis Holidays, is the biggest village in the Lizard and the town of Helston should be on the visit list for a taste trip to sample Spingo, the local brew. A drive of 13 miles brings sightseers to the bigger settlements of Falmouth and Penzance, with countless coves, Cornish attractions and activities for land and sea: gardens, galleries, castles, theatres and museums are all here, with Land’s End and the legendary St Michael’s Mount close to hand as well. Poldark, the only complete underground tin mine in Cornwall, is at Penzance for delves into Cornish history, while the China Clay Country Park is along the coast at St Austell.
