  • Campfires allowed; kindling and logs for sale
  • Bar on site with beer garden
'I’m free, to do what I want, any old time…' Free spirits will enjoy Namparra Campsite, near Kennack Sands on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula: visitors are at liberty to light their own campfire and can pick their perfect spot within the lush six-acre camping meadow to get the best of the gorgeous sea views. Fellow residents include alpacas, sheep and pigs, plus a flock of ducks and chickens whose eggs can be bought in the site shop. With the Riptide Bar and Grill just a short stroll away, guests can also freely sample the local cider and homemade cocktails over a game of pool, without any arguments about who's the designated driver. The bar also has regular entertainment and a beer garden (plus bacon baps available from the shop/reception area the morning after…) Four unisex wetrooms (with toilet, sink and shower) are on hand for all guests to use, with an additional new toilet block housing an extra four toilets just for the ladies. There’s also a sheltered washing-up area and a small laundry room. You can get kindling and logs for your campfire on site, or dig your own firepit. In-ground trampolines have been set up so that kids have a safe space to bounce away from any such proceedings.

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: We did not stay , the facilities were disgusting. The bar and kitchen were closed due to flooring being laid. I'm trying to get my money back but to no avail so far.

Liked: There was grass. Always hot water.

Disliked: Everything. This is without doubt the worst campsite I have ever stayed in; it is difficult to say anything positive. The campsite is generally messy and very badly kept; there were two old sinks dumped right outside the toilet block with numerous old caravans and machinery/tools dumped at various locations over the site. The shower block, if you can call it that is horrendous. The showers are basically garden huts with showers/toilet/basin in them. They are very poorly ventilated and not fit for purpose in any way. As they have toilets in them you take a shower next to where someone else goes to the loo very unpleasant. There was always grass on the floor. Awful. The toilet block, although new, is shoddily built and has no lighting making it unusable at night. There are just 4 working toilets in the block (1 cubicle was locked and unusable) with two basins. It was always full of grass and cleaned infrequently. 4 toilets/2 basins is not enough for the site. The washing up area was another garden hut; Dirty, lights that were not working and generally too small for the 2 washing up sinks in there. Nearby beach is lovely, and the pub about 7 mins away nice too.

From the manager: Given all your issues,I'm surprised you stayed the 4 nights you booked! The shower rooms do need some work this winter granted but having toilet, sink and shower makes it easy to do all you need to do rather than going to a different toulet block then back to a shower(unless of course you wee in the shower eeuuugghh). The locked cubicle in the girls toilets is where all the cleaning equipment is kept and the 2 basins outside are ready to go in the mens toilets next door,we don't sell ourselves as an all singing all dancing site,we are a basic farm site for families who appreciate nature not holiday parks! The vast majority of our campers like it how it is as can be seen by the many, many returns we get each year.

Liked: I liked the location. Easy walk to the beach and choice of 2 pubs/bars within easy reach. The showers were quirky and good water pressure. The kids loved the farm animals and the trampolines.

Disliked: There was a bit of a smell after the rain where we’d camped (just down from the loo block) but it was just that one day an only in that area.

Liked: The field is nice and spacious and was not crowded. Really handy location to the beach. Farm animals are cute. Food at the bar is ok for occasional, although slow.

Disliked: Appearance of the site as you enter is scruffy, abandoned car parts and rubbish. Outdated showers not cleaned frequently enough. Toilet facilities inadequate - overflowing bins, often no loo roll. Shared facilities for men and women. Loud Bands at the weekend.

From the manager: Thankyou for your review. Yes we do have a live band every Saturday evening , disco/karaoke on Fridays and bingo in the week but all of this takes place in our bar which as you know is a good 2 fields away from the campsite and it is not compulsory to join in at all. Our food is cooked fresh to order so if we are really busy there could be quite a wait, but people are always informed of this so they can choose whether to stay or move on. We have had problems with getting cleaning staff this year so the facilities may not be up to our usual standard but there are 4 huts with a shower/toilet/sink in each then a separate set of toilets for the females, the one for males will be open soon.

Friendly and good bar food and music.

Liked: Staff and food in the bar

Disliked: The site looks like a junk yard. There was junk as soon as you entered the site. There are caravans on site that look poorly maintained. The toilets have no lighting they were not cleaned regularly and toilet roll had to be asked for on several occasions. The 4 shower huts were a disgrace and poorly maintained. They were cleaned only twice during our 10 day stay. The bar area needed a good clean. We did eat on the first night and I must admit the food was lovely. It’s a shame the site is so poorly run because the owners and the staff were so nice. Unfortunately I would not stay again or recommend the site.

Local attractions

About 20 minutes’ walk from Namparra Campsite you’ll find Kennack Sands, a fantastic family beach with a great café; a similar walk in the other direction takes you through a picturesque valley to Poltesco, a hidden cove with a pebbly beach and the photogenic ruins of an old serpentine works, and the Lizard Point with its iconic lighthouse. This part of Cornwall is peppered with enchanting fishing villages, including nearby Cadgwith: if you’re lucky enough to be here on a Friday night (known in these parts as Saint Inebriatus’ Eve!), you can join the renowned Cadgwith Singers for a singalong of sea shanties in the local pub. There are loads of good days out for the family, too: the seal sanctuary at Gweek, Cornish Camels for tractor rides, a giant sandpit and lots of animals, including, of course, camels, the Flambards Experience theme park;,and the Poldark Mine, for a glimpse into the life of a tin miner and a wide range of fun activities including gold panning, candle dipping and pottery throwing.
