  • Tiny luxury yurt site perched on the edge of Bodmin Moor
  • Hot tub, gas barbecue, firepit, decked terrace and communal lounge
  • Private kitchen and shower room, comfy kingsize bed and two futons
Perched the edge of Bodmin Moor and six minutes' drive from the centre of the ancient and rather auspicious market town of Liskeard, Luxury Cornish Yurts is a tiny resort with tons and tons going for it. If you're thinking quality Cornish cosiness then you're in the right place – all the handmade yurts are insulated with thick felt liners and come with a woodburning stove, as well as sturdy solid oak furniture, rugs, a cloud-like kingsize bed and two comfy futons. There's also plenty of storage for clothes and personal bits and bobs, which you certainly wouldn't get with a reggo two-man tent. You're provided with everything you might need to glamp up your getaway, from tea lights and rechargeable torches and lanterns to all your bedding and towels, a first basket of firewood and hot water bottles; you'll even get first dibs on the resident free-range hens' eggs whenever they decide to lay them for you. If you're not really into sharing your amenities then Luxury Cornish Yurts triumphantly ticks that box too – each yurt has a private heated shower room, and inside the barn there's the 'cow shed kitchen' with fully fitted, spacious and well-stocked kitchens assigned to each of the yurts, and a decked seating area and herb garden, all at your disposal. Moving on to the communal lounge, there you'll find lavish leather sofas, complementary tea and coffee facilities and a library of good books, as well as table football and a great selection of toys and family games. While away an evening or three in the roomy wood-fired hot tub that lies outside the barn, or summon up a sausage sizzle in the firepit, equipped (as you might now have become accustomed to expect) with comfortable outdoor seating; alternatively, crack out the site's gas barbecue if one is simply feeling too posh to get one's hands dirty.

Local attractions

Due to its close proximity to the moor, Liskeard is very well placed for promenades punctuated by picnics beginning right at your yurt, and there are some wonderful woodland walks at Golitha Falls and Cardinham Woods, both well within half an hour's drive away. Head into ancient Liskeard, where you can see the success of the 19th-century copper mining boom there in its huge early Victorian former hotel, Webb's House, the Guildhall and Stuart House, which once provided princely lodgings for Charles II, no less. There are also plenty of inns, cafés and shops in Liskeard too if you fancy dining out one evening or grabbing sausagey supplies for a griddle soiree back at base. Over at Adrenalin Quarry – a rural adventure centre set on the site of (you've guessed it) an old quarry – you can clamber over rocks, hurtle down one of England's longest ziplines and swim in a deepwater lake. At Tree Surfers over in Gulworthy you'll find a complex of ladders, rope bridges, zip wires and walkways networking the canopy of a broadleaf woodland – just don't look down. Several surfing and beaches are within easy reach by car, and you can set sail for a sea fishing trip from the small coastal town of Looe, 20 minutes' drive away, or go on an angling expedition at Siblyback Lake.
