  • Spacious site near the centre of Cornwall
  • Easy access to the beaches of the north and south coasts
  • Pubs, restaurants and shops all a short drive away
Gno what? If you fancy a friendly, clean and quiet site in the open countryside of Cornwall, a short drive from the north coast's fab surf at Newquay and with a National Nature Reserve on the doorstep, you should give scenic Gnome World Holiday Park a whirl. The seven-mile Goss Moor Trail is opposite the park for easy ambles or bike rides along its flat terrain, part of the Goss Moor National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest for a spot of wildlife watching a quick walk from your pitch. By car, the beaches of Newquay and the north coast – Mawgan Porth, Crantock, Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach – are within a few minutes' drive, and the ports and coastline of the south, such as Mevagissey and Fowey, not much further. There's plenty of room on this spacious site for family games, alongside a well-equipped play area for little imps, a well-maintained toilet and shower block with disabled facilities near the touring and camping field, and a token-operated launderette. Pubs, convenience stores and restaurants are all a short drive away.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Fantastic location, central to Newquay, St Austel etc and just off the A30 with retail park just down the road. I requested that we be near the toilets/showers due to it being just myself and my 5yr old - request was met and I'm very grateful. Showers modern and cleaned. Outdoor shower for wetsuits etc. Well presented. Lady in the office was friendly. Very reasonable price, I'll be back again!

Disliked: We felt that there wasn't enough showers for the number of pitches. I had to queue and wait several times as only 3 showers in the block in our field. Water was also freezing cold on one occasion but think that was because I went just after peak time and everyone had used it all. The other times I used the showers it was lovely and hot so might of been a one-off. Other people trashing the pitches driving across everywhere rather than sticking to the gravel tracks. They left such a mess as it was pretty wet on the week we stayed. Not the sites fault but they could of done with a bollocking!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location was acceptable, pizza-man extremely friendly / fantastic food

Disliked: There was a number of issues, please see below: - Filthy toilets & shower room - Campers allowed onsite after 11pm & continued to set-up until 3am - Dogs allowed to roam site without leads (entering my tent & urinating) - Family pitched next to 8 x 18 - 21 years old group (extremely noisy) - Let a day early All points were raised in the correct manor & unsatisfactory options offered. Staff extremely rude, we were offered opportunity to move pitch (3hr turnaround minimum for an issue not created by ourselves) The site has admitted to the issues, and offered a 10% discount for a future visit, we're clearly never going to return to this site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely site and facilities however we were given a pitch in a hill/slope so our 7 months old kept rolling to one side at night in his crib, we hadn't wedge things under his cot legs just to make him level. We slid down in our beds every night and obv things like water and food would slide kn the tables due to the hill/slope we were on. Would stay again if we were guaranteed a flat pitch.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Plenty of space on the level pitch, nice hillside views, friendly staff, although quite remote the location has good links to main roads.

Disliked: Disappointed that "Gnome World" had only a few gnomes around, basically a handful at the entrance; plus the one we donated. Told [when there] that there used to be gnomes throughout park, it was a disappointment as I'd built my toddler's hopes up. Lack of on-site activities. Cleaning of washrooms/showers could be improved.

Local attractions

Gnome World Holiday Park is peacefully placed away from the main tourist trail of Cornwall, but cunningly sited for easy access to all the best attractions of the county's north and south. The Crealy Great Adventure Park and Newquay Zoo are both less than seven miles away. If poss plan plenty of time at the beaches of both the north and the south: at the north, head for the world-famous surfing beaches of Newquay including Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, both of which have surf shops for kit hire and lessons. If you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths, Porth beach, also at Newquay, doesn't allow surfing in the summer season so has a quieter family feel. To the south, Mevagissey and Fowey are both popular ports with visitors, Mevagissey for its historic harbour and Fowey for yacht spotting and a trip on the passenger ferry to Polruan or back to Mevagissey. On land, there's loads to do too, like exploring Cornwall's old tin mines, part of a World Heritage Site or having a Cornish pasty and ice cream in every old fishing village dotted along the coast. Seafood should be sampled in Padstow and art in St Ives too, or spend a day at Cornwall's best known attractions, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both easy to get to from Mevagissey and Fowey. If you fancy a flight, take a helicopter ride to the beaut Isles of Scilly from Newquay.
