  • Petting corner on site with ponies
  • Easy access to Camel Creek Adventure Park
  • Pool, bar, games room and free hot showers
Ponies! Heaps of things will make your kids’ hearts sing on a stay at long-established and family-run Music Water Touring Park near Padstow in Cornwall, but you can bet that the petting corner on site to nuzzle the noses of snuggly ponies will be any small person’s first melodious stop. (You can then casually inform them – kids, not ponies – that Music Water is within trotting distance of Camel Creek Adventure Park, and we bet they’ll be singing all through the hol.) As befits a park with ponies on it, Music Water has a paddock layout for those to prefer to pitch up in a peaceful countryside setting. Kids can canter off to the play area and games room with pool tables, amusement machines and table tennis; for all sizes, the outdoor pool and family-friendly bar will keep the holiday harmonious. Amenities-wise, guests have access to two shower and toilet blocks with free hot water, a launderette, freezer pack service and an on-site post box (to send home jubilant postcards). Trotting off site, Music Water is a few miles from the coastal walks and sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, four miles from Padstow and the Camel Trail, and seven miles from Wadebridge. Newquay – and its zoo – is about eight miles away, and the famed Eden Project about half an hour’s drive. Buy barbecue bits and essentials at the shop a couple of miles away or at the Tesco in Padstow; diners out have stacks of choice from restaurants and pubs in Padstow, Wadebridge, Newquay and St Merryn.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Family friendly campsite, lots of others with families there so felt comfortable. Great location for driving into Padstow. Only 2 showers in each block but they were always clean and tidy. We didn’t use the bar area but it wasn’t loud enough to bother us when we went to bed early. Not sure if there was wifi there as we were not given details but none available at our tent. Lovely swimming pool (and very clean) but too cold for our little one.

Disliked: Suggested improvements: - a cot in the shower block (like in swimming pool changing rooms) - some swings or other things in the park for smaller children - warmer swimming pool - wifi across the site

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We had a great week camping here. It was a terraced pitch which was flat and surrounded by bushes which gave a bit of privacy. You could see the sea from our pitch. The kids enjoyed the pool, playground and games room, adults enjoyed the bar (which is cash only), the sense of community and the relaxed and friendly, homely feel.

Disliked: The showers are quite basic.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Staff were friendly, reasonably flat pitch, kids playground and pool were near to the tent pitches. Toilets were cleaned regularly. Location is 10 mins drive from excellent local beaches.

Disliked: The tent pitches are quite near a road that has a low frequency of traffic, sometimes lorries. The mens toilet sinks are opposite the urinals. Prefer separate area to avoid pee smell, as in many campsites. Showers were lukewarm not hot and are short duration push button. Games room and bar smell a bit musty. No washing machines or drying room.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The actual camping grounds are very well kept and, where we were pitched up, nicely spaced out. It is evident the grounds are loved and we loved the array of flowers and shrubs. The lady showing us to our pitch was very kind and friendly. The other campers were friendly. This site has a lot of potential and could be incredible if some money was put into updating the facilities!

Disliked: The reception area decor felt unwelcoming, but the owner was friendly. The toilet and shower block is outdated, run down and felt unclean. The showers were luke warm at best and pressure was extremely low. It didn’t help that you had to keep on pushing the shower button, what felt like, every 30 seconds. If you like an early morning wake up call, you are in for a treat! The refuse collection makes a 4:50 stop at the site, right next to the tents on Wednesday mornings. One morning we were woken to a smell of burning and at 8am ash started to fall on our tent and on us! I assume a farmer in a nearby field was busy at work! The site is next to a busy road and again with tents being situated close to the road we could hear cars at all hours.

From the manager: Thanks for all the positive things you said, I'm so glad you noticed our wonderful camping grounds, our friendly staff and how great our pitches are. I'm sorry you found our toilet block unclean, we clean the facilities twice a day and do frequent checks throughout, if something is brought to our attention then we try to rectify it immediately. With regards to the early morning refuse collection by the binmen and Farmers working then unfortunately we cant do anything about this, we are in the countryside and rural location and we do have to except the locals are working.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Good pitch size, friendly and very helpful site owners. Facilities were basic but always clean. Very friendly club house with games room next door. Ponies and hens/ chickens which you could feed!

Disliked: Very small on-site swimming pool...just suitable for younger children

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite is very tidy and lovely looking, the grounds are well maintained. We had a great pitch opposite the park and pool which was great for keeping an eye on the children. Location is good for many days out. There was many lovely families there and it was wonderful seeing so many children playing together. Whilst it wasn’t a noisy campsite, we were opposite the park and bar so we could hear fun being had - Visitors all stuck to quite after 11pm which was good. Although there were some negatives, I would likely visit again but I think the cost is a bit too much for the poor facilities.

Disliked: Cash only for everything which was annoying and we also didn’t know that we needed to pay cash or bank transfer on arrival so that was a bit stressful when we got there. Toilets and shower blocks are seriously in need of a refit/ deep clean. These were really disappointing although I found another block in a further away area that was much cleaner on our penultimate day, it was as if this one was maintained a lot more that the other one we had been using. The pool was freezing which was a shame as my boys didn’t want to go in it again after their first try. Bin lorries at 4.30am one morning was a bit of a surprise to be woken by. No shop or basic items available at the bar which is a shame. We chose to leave a day early as forecast rain meant getting off the pitch by 10.30 the next day was unrealistic as we would have liked to have let the tent dry. 10.30 for tents to leave is ridiculously early.

From the manager: Thank you so much for all the lovely things you said regarding the campsite. We don't have a shop on site however a local post office and shop is just up the road at St Eval ,approx. a mile and half away and a Tesco just at Padstow. Our check out time is 10.30am as stated on the booking and conditions page and arrival time is 11am.

Local attractions

Beach or theme park? Theme park or beach? Surfing or sailing or fishing or horse riding or golf – or coastal hikes and countryside bikes? If you want to stick close to base, all are available within 10 miles at the most from Music Water Touring Park, with other attractions and towns like Portreath, St Ives and Tintagel also exceedingly reachable on the north coast. The Camel Creek Adventure Park jut outside Wadebridge will probably be the first stop for those on holiday with small adventurers to soar on the rides and peer at the meerkats. Also at Wadebridge, the St Eval Kart Circuit is the biggest kids' circuit in the UK and is suitable for ages three to 16 (adults can roar along the track on their own circuit too). Newquay Zoo and its Blue Reef Aquarium are other popular stops on the ‘kids in Cornwall’ trail, and just outside Newquay farm-mad offspring will milk the day for all it’s worth around the huge indoor play centre, adventure park, critters and maze of award-winning DairyLand Farm World.
