  • Environmentally friendly site in the Luxulyan Valley
  • A mile from the Eden Project
  • Workshops, wildlife walk and communal firepit
Acorn Camping and Glamping, in Cornwall’s Luxulyan Valley, is an artfully environmentally friendly site with workshops to pique your interest – and it's only a mile from environmentally excellent days at the famed Eden Project too. Budding scholars, get ready to blossom. You could learn sculpture carving or indulge your inner clown by picking up circus skills, including aerial workshops in the site's own woodland… Kids can scavenge about on a woodland hunt and learn how to make dens and build fires – and fiction fans of all ages can listen enthralled to the storyteller who visits in summer. The Luxulyan Valley is a World Heritage Site with Acorn Camping and Glamping at its heart near Par: expect seven acres of meadows and woodland, a private woodland walk, an abundance of wildlife and a network of waterside walks, all centrally placed to some of Cornwall’s most famed attractions. As a tiny back to basics site, it’s Par for the course that Acorn allows campfires: blocks are available to stand barbecues on and the communal firepit takes care of cooking (pick up some logs from the site owners). Facilities include toilets, hot water showers, hot-water washrooms and a washing-up area with cold water. Only logs are sold on site, but a shop and a pub are a mile and a half away. Pitches are on a gently sloping three-quarters of an acre: park at the site entrance and offload your gear on the trolleys provided to get to your pitch. Sorry but, because of the local wildlife, Acorn Camping and Glamping can’t accept dogs.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: lovely quiet beautiful site great location for Eden

Disliked: the photos on line are misleading as it looks like there are streams and waterways but actually there's none at all - the brook you can hear is only accessible if you walk on the road

Liked: Great site with wonderful facilities. Close to Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and some great sites to see in the valley! Hosts are fantastic; I was lucky to have a few chats and felt so welcomed. I will be back as soon as possible!

Flora bell tent (four person)

Liked: Woodland walk when we arrived, loved the open fire and we got assistance from the owners when our logs wouldn't catch fire. The teepee was amazing and so great to have all equipment, made our stay so easy. Really enjoyed the site, it's gorgeous and beautiful and the kids have already asked to go back!

Disliked: We were one of three couples staying so it was very silent, but this wasn't to worst - also the showers are very much open to the elements, so if you fear spiders be ready to skip the outside washrooms!

Hobbit Hole cabin (secluded)

Liked: This is a really unique place to stay in a beautiful area. Our hobbit hole was so cute and cosy. We loved watching the birds, insects, butterflies and squirrels while eating breakfast outside the hut. The price was really reasonable for peak season in popular Cornwall. Highly recommended!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really fun camping in the rural Cornwall. Loved the natural site with an almost fairy like forest, open grass fields and nice lookouts on the Cornwall meadows. From the camping we traveled the far west and north of Cornwall by car, which was perfectly doable within 2 hrs.

Foxglove Flora bell tent (eight person)

Liked: A small and quiet campsite with a beautiful attached woodland to explore with our two kids who are 6 and 8 who loved the magic of the place. Great toilets, covered washing up area and showers.

Disliked: We hadn't realised the glamping tents were so close to other pitches as in the photos they look to be quite separate with lots of space around. It didn't affect our stay though - we had wonderful neighbours :) But useful to know the layout.

From the A390 in St Blazey take the road opposite the Gulf petrol station New Road leading to Prideaux Road (the site is 1.5 miles from this point). Take the next right signposted Prideaux. Go through the hamlet and along the width restriction road; 400m down the hill pull into field entrance on the right where you will see a small Acorn sign on a rock. However if you're coming from the A30, from the A30 follow the signs to The Eden Project. At the Eden Project roundabout, take a left, next right, next left and left again, and the site is 400m along, as above.

Local attractions

Cornwall has hundreds of miles’ worth of walking and cycling trails, but a fine place to start is on the Saints Way, five minutes’ walk from Acorn – it’s a belter of a trip, even if you only do a few of its 27 miles (ideally those that deliver you to the Eden Project). Take to two wheels to cover local cycle trails such as the Camel Trail from Padstow or the gentler trip from the site to Luxulyan village; from here you can take the trains that run from Par to Newquay. Five minutes in the car brings you to Cornwall’s south coast – the nearest beach is three miles away but you might also like to go dolphin and seal spotting from Mevagissey, or take the kids to one of the many family attractions around the coast like the Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary at Par. National Trust houses and gardens are plentiful in Cornwall too: Falmouth’s Trebah Gardens should be a hit for all ages, and one of the very-must-sees in Cornwall is St Austell’s Lost Gardens of Heligan.
