  • Relaxed, friendly and dog-friendly site five miles from Land's End
  • Views towards the Isles of Scilly; 15 minutes' drive from Sennen Cove
  • Hot showers, games room, play area and launderette
If ‘Cornish retreat’ were in the dictionary, it might well be beside a pic of Roselands Caravan and Camping Park. This little gem of a site is hidden away among hundreds of acres of west Cornish countryside five miles from Land’s End and six from Penzance, and keeps visitor numbers carefully managed to make sure it never gets overcrowded. Roselands shies away from noisy entertainment, but still has stuff to do on site for all ages – a TV room, games room and an outdoor play area should see you sorted for low-key leisure time. It’s a short drive to the best of Cornwall’s activities and attractions: the clifftop Minack theatre, sunbathing at Sennen Cove, climbing, cycling, golfing, surfing, horse riding, birdwatching… and walkies. Lots and lots of walkies: Roselands is near the South West Coast Path and is firmly dog friendly (pooch Archie lives on site too). You’ll find yourself gently warmed up in spring and autumn at Roselands too, as its west Cornish climate and Gulf Stream influence mean early springs and late summers, often with the sun shining well into October. Guests come here in spring and autumn to take advantage of low season prices: wildflowers carpet the surrounding countryside in spring, while autumn is when birdwatchers flock to the nearby Isles of Scilly which sees some of the rarest birds in Europe make a pitstop. The owners/wardens live on site and ensure that standards are kept immaculate, with accommodation areas set among scenic shrubs and flowers. Amenities are bang up to date too, with free hot showers and a laundry room with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing facilities.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything was fine. No problems.

Disliked: We don't expect too much from stays on working farm, we know this isn't the main priority. But it is great when you get a warm welcome . Maybe as our host the previous night was so lovely the night before the lack of any was more noticeable.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet site within easy reach of St Just (good pubs) and South Coast attractions - coastal path and beaches. Just avoid Lands End, it's an overpriced tourist trap! Showers and toilets were excellent with plenty of hot water and nice and clean. Pitches were a decent size for a van and awning and nice and quiet. Price was very good per night for a September weekend stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Beautiful souroundings, well kept, well maintained. Excellent hosts. Unfortunate enough for our tent to break in storm, fortunate enough to rent a static for rest of stay. Really well kept, spotlessly clean, and would recommend for anyone wanting this peninsula as a base for exploring.

Local attractions

History, clifftop walks, spectacular scenery and some of the best surfing in the country are all accessible within five or 10 minutes’ drive. From the park you can see the Isles of Scilly, the collection of around 140 islands off Cornwall’s south-western coast. Five are still inhabited; one, Tresco (population 180), has the subtropical Tresco Abbey Gardens that are well worth a look. Also within a few miles of Roselands are the Bronze Age settlement Cape Cornwall, the county’s secondmost westerly point (after Land’s End); the popular family-friendly sands of Sennen Cove, and the Atlantic swells off Whitesands Bay, said to be one of the best surfing beaches in the country. Finally, take a full day at Land’s End to scramble about, snap some shots, picnic and pose for one of those pics at the famous signpost. The visitor centre has a list of walks to tackle around this smashing part of the Cornish coast.
