Superb surfing, an immense stretch of gilded sand, a natural sea water swimming pool, a river that’s perfect for paddling, high dunes filled with wildlife and flowers, and a top notch beachfront watering hole...it’s no wonder that Perranporth Beach, near Newquay, is one of Cornwall’s favourite beaches. If you like the sound of having all this on your doorstep, Perran Sands Holiday Park is the place to come. The park has direct access to Penhale Sands and Perranporth Beach, as well as its own surf school offering lessons for all abilities, and all the necessary equipment for hire. If surfing’s not your thing, don’t worry; you’ll be spoiled for choice with the range of sports, activities and entertainment for all ages on this action-packed Haven site. The facilities at Perran Sands Holiday Park include fab free kids’ clubs, indoor and outdoor pools (the former with a head-spinning flume), a swanky adventure golf course, mini ten-pin bowling, a new multi-sports court, and a good range of dining options. Young Bear Grylls in the making can get stuck into the wildly entertaining Nature Rockz activities run at the park. Learn all sorts from bushcraft skills to building shelters and making campfires, and kids could even get the chance to try pond dipping, beachcombing or venture out on a bug safari. Most activities are free but a small charge may apply to some. There’s also a fantastically varied programme of free family entertainment across two venues on site, including the high tech stage of the newly refurbished Live Lounge: tribute bands, competitions, circus acts, comedians, dancing, magic and more.

Local attractions

Newbie to Newquay? You’ll find it’s chockful of charm and places to visit, such as Newquay Zoo, Dairyland Farm World and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Many of Cornwall’s must-see tourist attractions are within easy reach of Perran Sands Holiday Park: start with a wander through the awe-inspiring biospheres of the Eden Project; check out King Arthur’s stamping ground Tintagel Castle; gaze out onto the Atlantic horizon from Land’s End; or get inspired at the Tate Gallery in St. Ives. For rugged recreation, there are some amazing coastal walks in the area, or you could head up into Bodmin Moor, or venture into Devon to visit Dartmoor, where you’ll also find atmospheric Castle Drogo, Buckfast Abbey (a stunning Benedectine monastery) and the woodland cascade of Becky Falls. The entrance fee to the latter covers a great range of family fun, including animal encounters of the cuddly (and less cuddly) kind, indoor crafts, letterboxing and nature trails. For an alternative view of the Jurassic coastline, and a chance to see nesting seabirds, take to the water with Stuart Line Cruises, which run a range of trips of varying length out of Exmouth Marina. Paradise Park in Hayle has over 650 rare birds, plus cute small mammals such as otters and red pandas, and a great indoor play barn. Finally, for adventure park aficionados, Flambards Theme Park has plenty of thrills and spills plus some interesting exhibitions such as the Victorian Village, and Britain in The Blitz.
