General
The sunny south coast, luxury lodges and a park with direct access down to the old smuggler’s cove and beaches of Talland Bay…if this sounds your scene, book into the family-friendly Killigarth Manor, a holiday park within reach of the attractions and sights of Cornwall’s south coast.
There’s loads to do on site too: the park has a fitness suite, sauna and heated indoor pool with a separate toddlers’ pool alongside, and evenings are well-catered for with nightly entertainment and competitions in the clubhouse from the Stripey Coats.
Kids can spend evenings with entertainment and activities from the Foxy Club to try treasure hunts, sing-alongs and making bits and bobs to bear proudly homewards. For rainy days and smaller campers, there’s a TV room and an indoor play area for the under-fives.
Accommodation at Killigarth is in three-bedroom lodges with own private veranda, fully fitted out kitchen, TV and DVD player. There are grocery supplies in the park shop, a takeaway on site and local dishes like shellfish soup and crab omelette in the nearby pub the Blue Peter.

Local attractions
Killigarth Manor is close to or within a short drive of most Cornish attractions including historic houses, lost gardens, sandy beaches and theme parks, with the Eden Project less than twelve miles away. If you’re giving the car a day or two off, a bus service outside the park runs most days from April to October.
Within walking distance, it’s a short stroll to the fishing village of Polperro, with harbour, guided walks, the Polperro Heritage Museum of Fishing and Smuggling and boat trips to spot seals and dolphins. There are several coastal walks from here: the route west to Fowey goes past three beaches, Lansallos Beach, Lantivit Bay and Lantic Bay, and the South West Coast Path passes through the village.
Two miles from Killigarth lies Looe, another fishing village where you can try your hand at shark catching with the locals or land one of the other tasty types available from here like mackerel, cod and conger eel; there’s a fish market in town for those who can’t be faffed catching their own. Looe also has the Monkey Sanctuary with wildlife gardens overlooking Looe Bay.
From Looe, it’s a 12-mile drive – or cycle – to Fowey where there are ferries to the villages of Polruan and Bodinnick, former home of Daphne du Maurier (the Fowey Tourist Information Centre is also home of the Du Maurier Literary Centre). There are boat trips from the town quay as well as harbour cruises, guided river trips and picnic road trips for sipping champagne along the creeks.
The antiques capital of Cornwall, Lostwithiel, is about eight miles inland from Fowey for picking up bargains and future appearances on Antiques Roadshow; there are antique fairs and festivals throughout the year and an award-winning farmers’ market every fortnight to pick up Cornish produce. Catch a train to Plymouth from here or drive the 25 miles or so from Killigarth Manor for a day trip or three to see the National Maritime Museum, the home of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard or Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake killed a bit of time playing bowls before sailing out to do battle with the Spanish Armada.
