  • Attractive park in meadows and woodland, family-run for generations
  • Stream and lake on site for angling: land fish of up to 28lb
  • Takeaway and bar available in high season
Ever been to one of those parks which have been run by the same family for generations and those who have been welcoming guests for decades? If not, it's time you did… such as to Pensagillas Park, near Cornwall’s St Austell, which has been run by the Kent family for six generations to provide a pristine place for pitching up. Pensagillas has had guests staying here since 1970; it’s all looked after and laid out to be tidy and attractive, with trees, hedging, shrubs and a tarmac roadway connecting the grass meadows. The pitches are in a five-acre field at the end of a private drive, with Cornish countryside views all around. And bring your rod: there’s an old mill with stream on site for contemplative casting off (and/or picnics), along with a two and a half acre coarse fishing lake at the bottom of a steep hill to land roach, tench, golden rudd and carp of up to 28lb (note that fishing is for an additional fee, paid for at reception). Pensagillas Park is a working farm, and you can buy the site's own free-range pork, sausages, chops and eggs in the on-site shop. During high season, there’s a takeaway and a cosy bar serving beer and cider, with more tipples and food available in the local village a couple of miles away.

From the manager: In response to your inaccurate and misleading comment - we are very disappointed with your score. You haven’t slept on in a empty field without facilities, You have booked for 1 night in the middle of September 2023. Shop was open and operated as advertised. You arrived late and departed early, the shop was closed at 6pm and open at 8.30am in the morning Bar was closed as advertised (it is only open during high season) Im sorry to discover that I’ve upset you with my telephone call. The reason why I’ve contacted you was to find out the approx. time of your arrival, it was getting dark and I was worried that you may got lost. Please accept my apologises for any disturbance that I have caused with my call. On arrival you have been personally greeted by me and showed around our park. Its very obvious that you haven’t read some important information, before you booked, about our facilities and opening hours. Because of that you have submitted review full of false information. May I suggest to you – please take a min and search some information about the site before making booking, as we are - the owners of the business and not responsible for your mistakes.

A lovely site b but some extra cleaning would make it a lot better.

Lake view meadow electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Quiet site with good views of the Cornwall countryside. Staff were very nice and helpful. We stayed outside of the busy period which may have effected how quiet it was but there were only 4 pitches available in our field anyway so it would’ve been quiet during busy periods as well and it had a good view of the fishing lake

Disliked: The toilets and showers could’ve been cleaner as these were shared with various spiders, moths and other insects. A quick wipe round and a good hoover could’ve corrected this and it would make the experience a lot better. I was also greeted by a cockroach on its back one night in the gents toilets. Camping you expect the odd bug etc but this was beyond what we would expect and usually find camping in this country and various countries in Europe

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I'm sorry to hear that your experience was so different to the hundreds of other campers that have stayed with us this year and have all commented on how clean our toilets and other facilities are. As you will see from our other reviews, we pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our facilities and the toilets and showers are cleaned spotlessly twice a day and constantly checked and monitored at all other times. I can only imagine that the extremely hot and dry weather may of attracted the bugs at night. As the lights are left on at night in the facilities so that people can see, this may of attracted them , but i can assure you they are all cleaned out. I am 100 percent positive we would of had no cockroaches on the site , what you may of seen is a May beetle. these creatures are completely harmless and do not sting, bite or do anything else to cause harm to humans. Had you mentioned your concerns to myself or any of the other members of staff i would of personally made sure the there were no spiders in the showers and addressed any of your concerns. You could of always used the other toilet block which is more internal. We make every effort to attract wildlife to our site and have put up numerous bird boxes etc and planted wildflower meadows to attract a diverse range of creatures to our farm. occasionally the bugs get into places they shouldn't. and for this i apologize.

Great value and location. Would recommend.

Orchard Meadow electric grass pitch

Liked: The site is lovely and really peaceful, with lots of wild birds and owls at night. The established trees and shrubs around the pitches divide up the areas well giving a secluded feeling. Everywhere is clean and tidy and very well managed. The dog exercise area is massive and a walk around the fishing lake is recommended if you are able.

Outer Meadow electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: After camping here last year, we decided to come back again this year. Still such a lovely campsite. Showers have been upgraded and are even nicer than last year, a nice toilet and shower block and a nice changing room. Wifi was even better and worked really well. Washing and laundry facilities are really useful, and laundry facilities reasonable priced to use. The tow bar pub and takeaway is lovely as always. Nice atmosphere. reasonable prices and tasty food , with a good veggie option. Camping pitch are great sizes, really pretty land, and lovely scenery to wake up too. And not to far away from all facilities

Local attractions

Pensagillas Park has tourist information on site if you’re stuck for info on what to do, but any problem you're likely to have will be trying to narrow your list down… Pensagillas is near busy St Austell and one of the closest parks to one of Cornwall’s biggest attractions, the mighty Lost Gardens of Heligan a mile and a half away. Leave the car behind and reach Heligan by the Pentewan Valley Trail, which links St Austell to the gardens and to Pentewan via a scenic valley; you can hire bikes on the trail or take to the water at Pentewan, which has a fine beach and two sailing clubs with boats for hire (there’s also a St Austell Ales pub here for real ale adorers). Mountain bikers and the energetic should beetle towards the bike routes of Bodmin Moor, taking a pitstop at Jamaica Inn, an almost essential stop in these parts. The inn, the setting of Daphne du Maurier’s smuggling novel of the same name, has a museum telling the tales of Cornish smugglers throughout the centuries, and apparently several ghosts too…
