  • Peaceful eco-friendly site by the River Dart in Dartmoor National Park
  • Activities including water zorbing, high ropes, kayaking and zipwiring
  • Fishing, toddlers' beach, café bar, Sunday carvery and shop
Darting down to Devon? Dive into river antics, zipwiring and other adventures in a peaceful waterside location with a stay at River Dart Country Park near Ashburton. The site is – you've guessed it – by the River Dart, the spectacularly scenic watery meander past waterfalls, clapper bridges and villages of Dartmoor National Park. You'll be pitching up in the national park for easy access to riverside hikes and other outdoorsy adventures, and the site is close to River Dart Adventures for much more of the same. Water zorbing, a high ropes course, indoor climbing wall, canoeing and a mega zipwire all await your energetic self – and the kids will surely like the chance to capture the huge pirate ship… For a more placid vibe, there's plenty of room around the grounds for strolls and picnics; fishing is available without leaving the site, and a toddlers' beach is to hand for their first sandcastle-building lessons. Food is easily sorted too, at the Old Sawmill café and bar for quick bites, drinks and Sunday carvery, or by stocking up at the site shop to make your own meals. The park is run on eco-friendly grounds, with a biomass heating system for the (free) hot water in the shower blocks; an Archimedes' screw provides electricity for 80% of the year.

Route directions

Within the Dartmoor National Park, yet only one mile from the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth near Ashburton, we are easy to find and conveniently located. Follow the brown tourist signs to the River Dart Country Park from the Peartree Junction on the A38 by Ashburton. Please note that the Peartree junction is the second Ashburton junction when travelling from Exeter direction. Do not come off at the Linhay junction which takes you through the narrow streets of Ashburton - not ideal when towing a caravan.

Local attractions

When you're ready to venture away from all the site-based antics, the park is a mile from the A38 Devon Expressway for easy access to plenty of top Devon attractions such as Buckfast Abbey (10 minutes' drive away), as well as Devon beaches, coastal paths and cities like Exeter and Plymouth. Ditch the car and explore the surrounding countryside by foot or bike (bike hire is available on site), or drive to the sea on the north or south coasts to access the spectacular South West Coast Path, running along the Devon (and Cornwall) coastline. Or just set out into Dartmoor for wild ponies and riverside ambles all the day long. For a bit more history after Buckfast Abbey, try Powderham Castle, half an hour's drive away, or for more local produce sampling, Dartington Cider Press near Totnes is 15 minutes away.
