  • Among the Blackdown Hills seven miles from the Jurassic Coast
  • Covered pool and paddling pool; adventure playground and soft play
  • Bar, restaurant and takeaway Fridays and Saturdays in school holidays
For a getaway within a short drive of the coast, take a look at Andrewshayes Caravan Park. Benefiting from the backdrop of the Blackdown Hills, this middling-sized, sheltered site is only seven miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, so the fossil beaches and seaside resorts are within easy reach. After a day out exploring, make your way to the covered heated pool for a second dip too. Pull up a pew in the conservatory by the pool for a comfy spot to chill out while you watch the kids swim. The on-site bar is the place to be for drinks of an evening. There’s also a restaurant and takeaway service for those who want to put their feet up after a hard day’s relaxation. The bar, restaurant and takeaway are open on Friday and Saturdays only, and in school holidays (in the school hols, the bar lays on live singers and bingo at night too). Once the small fry have been fished out of the pool, there’s an adventure playground and games room to occupy them, plus a soft play area for anklebiters. Man’s best friend is welcome too, with good exercise areas on site.

All-weather electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: The facilities were really good and we loved the bar and pool. The views from the site were beautiful and the sound of cows in the fields next door created a great ambience! It was lovely to have the caravan pitched on arrival by the tractor - not sure we would have made it into the pitches otherwise! The hardstanding astro style turf was very good in the mud.

Disliked: The pitches are quite small, we were visiting at a time when there had been a lot of rainfall and the ground was very muddy so that made the area smaller (and not the campsites fault) however they are small pitches when trying to park a car, put up an awning etc. Due to the hill slope there was not a lot of room. Quite close to the road.

All-weather electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Flat ground lovey facilities & nice little break away Really clean shower block possibly the best we’ve seen (if your at the top it’s quiet far away with kids)

Disliked: Electric pitches arnt for tents the ground is impossible to get pegs into as it’s shingles and Astro placed over, it’s lovely and flat but not tent pitch friendly. We destroyed so many pegs and we have good ones. You need steaks and a metal hammer :)

All-weather electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Warm and friendly welcome; clean toilet block; indoor swimming pool; clean and tidy pitch; good location to explore Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Will likely return for a longer stay.

Disliked: There was some road noise but our pitch was at the top near to the busy main road. There was less road noise on the other side of the park.

Local attractions

Close to the park, Shute Woods are a sweet spot for walks. Alternatively, guests can head to the dramatic South West Coastal Path, to forage for fossils at Charmouth beach, take in the views from the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis, which has sandy and pebbly beaches replete with rock pools, or have a stroll along Beer beach - followed by a well-earned pint, perhaps... For family frolics, the Crealy Adventure Park has rollicking rides, there are miniature and model railways and crazy golf at Pecorama, and another track-based treat is the Seaton heritage tram, which trundles its way through two local nature reserves teeming with wading birds. Other options include meeting the residents at Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary (free entry); the wildlife, forest activities, play barn and maze at Escot; cream teas and glorious English country gardens at Burrow Farm; or an outing to one of the various National Trust properties nearby.
