  • Adults-only site in a rural location a mile from Exmoor National Park
  • Close to walking and cycling paths, a fishing lake and golf course
  • Five miles from the beaches and watersports of the north Devon coast
Hankering after a haven of peace and quiet? Head off to Hallsdown Farm Touring Park, a small rural site a mile from the Exmoor National Park and five miles from the north Devon coast. Your near neighbours at this friendly farm park will include goats, Shetland ponies and a donkey; you’ll also want to be keeping an eye out for a flock of ducks or chickens toddling past. What you’ll not need to look out for is any kids, as this is a site reserved solely for the grownups (sorry small sorts – your elders just need a bit of space occasionally…) A cluster of country and coast activities await in the local area: walks and bike rides in Exmoor, fishing at the reservoir a few minutes away and surfing or sea kayaking over in Ilfracombe, 20 minutes away. You could also take in a castle, a sculpture garden and Exmoor Zoo (perhaps best not mention that to any potentially jealous nippers). Life on site is pretty relaxed – pitches are spacious and kitted out with their own electricity and water supplies, and there are essential amenities including a launderette and a toilet/shower block with individual facilities. The nearest sizeable village, Combe Martin, is 10 minutes’ drive away, but there’s a cracking farm shop a 15-minute stroll away if you’re planning to pick up supplies to eat in, and a pub half an hour’s walk away if you’d rather delegate cooking responsibilities.

Local attractions

If you’re coming here for a classic country escape, bring your fishing kit along for a chilled afternoon at Wistlandpound Reservoir, 10 minutes away, or pack boots and/or bike for expeditions in Exmoor National Park, a 10-minute drive away. Golfers can get a round in 20 minutes away on Ilfracombe’s stunning sea-view course; there’s also scope for surfing, sea kayaking and coasteering up here. Ambling around Arlington Court, five minutes away, is a most agreeable way to spend a day; the house is filled with collections of gorgeous things, including splendid silks, model ships and more than 3,000 shells. It’s also home to the National Trust Carriage Museum and some mighty pretty gardens. Speaking of pretty gardens, arty types will want to make the 20-minute drive to the gorgeous sculpture-strewn grounds of Broomhill Art Hotel, and there are 20 ornamental acres to explore at Marwood Hill Gardens (25 minutes away). If it’s sea views that lift your spirits, head to Watermouth Castle (20 minutes) or settle on the sands of Woolacombe (25 minutes).
