  • Valley site among mature trees and landscaped ponds
  • A mile from Haldon Forest Park
  • Playground and modern toilet and shower blocks
Pitching up in the River Kenn valley, on a park surrounded by Devon woodland and countryside, with mature trees and landscaped ponds complete with resident ducks… does this sound like it might fit the bill? If so, take your flock to Haldon Forest Holiday Park, five miles from Exeter and just a mile from the woodland and bike trails of the 3500-acre Haldon Forest Park. Haldon Forest has a playground on the park for kids to go out on a limb under the watchful eye of more mature types. The site also has up to date laundry facilities, plus three modern toilet and shower blocks with heating and free hot water. All in all, you’ll surely find this park all that it’s quacked up to be…

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Pitches together (3) owners very accommodating Good toilet and shower block

Disliked: Waste disposal a bit disorganised but that was due to the campers I think not the owners!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We had a lovely stay, and my son throughly enjoyed the park and the woodland area surrounding us. The pitch had lots of space and general clean. Our stay was very good. Would definitely visit again.

Disliked: Online said there was a shop on site however on arrival the shop was closed from 28th August and wasn't told this was the case when booking.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Really good camping site. It's landing on my "must visit again" list. Good pitch sizes. You can choose your own pitch which is huge bonus. Great location. Shop, bar and live music is just another bonus.

Disliked: Nothing really, we are not fussy campers.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Loved this site: plenty of amenities and super large pitches so you never felt cramped. The marquee that had a bar and served food in the evenings was a real bonus and a most welcome touch. The hosts were both kind and friendly and always willing to help. Great location and was in easy reach of various tourist spots. We will definitely use this site again.

Disliked: Not all pitches are particularly level which could cause issues for some. The ladies toilets could do with some more regular clearing of spiders and cobwebs and the vents cleaning.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Huge pitches, huge fields in fact. Hook up and water at each pitch more or less, plenty of toilets, plenty of showers, on site shop, bar and hot food stall in the evenings. Local forest trails and biking centre only 5 mins away. We also did the GoApe climbing experience too. Pretty close to Exeter City center and close to the Dawlish coastline. Husband and wife team are friendly and will help with anything.

Disliked: Nothing to do with the park, but we had poor weather for our stay, lots of rain

Local attractions

Bring the bikes to Devon or hire wheels at Haldon Forest Park to take full advantage of the miles of woodland mountain bike and cycle trails for various levels of ability. Discovery trails, play equipment and several walking trails are also in the forest park including the circular Butterfly Trail and the easy-rated Mamhead Sensory Trail with gorgeous views along the Jurassic Coast and over the Exe estuary. A ten mile horse riding trail is also around for more relaxed forest sightseeing, with horse riding of a different type at the forest’s Exeter Racecourse. Dartmoor National Park, with more hacking, hiking and biking as well as tor climbing, guided walks and geocaching, is a short drive from the holiday park. It has regular events throughout the year, towns and villages to take in, the famous Dartmoor ponies to spot and Dartmoor Zoo with meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. Bring binoculars along with the bikes: the forest park and surrounding area are wildlife havens, with rare birds of prey and wild deer in the forest itself and birdwatching a few miles away at the Site of Special Scientific Interest the Exe Estuary: watch oystercatchers showing excellent culinary taste in breaking open mussels at Bull Hill or take a trip to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren at the estuary’s mouth. If you’re bringing along the bikes, the National Cycle Network Exe Estuary Trail runs to Exmouth from Dawlish. The sublime sand of Dawlish Warren is one of several South Devon sandy stretches, with the beaches at Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay within easy distance of Haldon Forest and the coastal towns of Torquay and Paignton a little further along the coast. Exmouth is the place to don the wetsuit as it’s known for watery sports of all types including diving, windsurfing and sailing; it’s also a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Finally, a stay at Haldon Forest has to include a day or two in Exeter to see its twelfth century cathedral, medieval Guildhall and famous historic quayside with antique shops, restaurants, canoe and boat trips and events such as dragon boat racing and guided tours.
