  • Family site within 30 minutes' drive of Bude's popular surfing beaches
  • A short drive from The Milky Way and The Big Sheep
  • Coarse fishing lakes, play area and pets' corner
Just look at those lush, lush lakes… anglers will be in fishy heaven at Thornbury Holiday Park. As will pretty much all sorts of guests whatever their age or holiday inclination: the park's a short drive from the sand and surf of Bude as well as within easy reach of all manner of Devon and Cornwall highlights... and is in splendid setting with spectacular countryside views all around; do see pics. This leafy and rightly popular family park, set across almost nine acres, has two well-stocked coarse fishing lakes for fisherfolk to cast off at. Kids are well sorted too, with an outdoor play area, loads of green space to run about in, and a pets' corner which the Thornbury team reckons is a must-see. Kids may also care to know that two family amusement parks (The Milky Way and The Big Sheep) are around half an hour's drive away… The park's excellently-maintained amenities include a launderette and a modern sanitary block with toilets and hot showers, both open 24 hours a day. Hen and duck eggs are available year round in the site's honesty box.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Tranquility. Beautiful location. Cleanliness and orderliness. Level, well drained pitch. Great communication from Lisa

Disliked: Nothing at all, however our stay would have been even better if there had been a drying rack in the laundry and a small waste bin in the washing up area

Liked: I really enjoyed my stay. We recieved a warm welcome with brief but clear info for the site. Plenty of space and well laid out level plots. The facilities were nice and clean and clearly signed. Two lakes to have a wonder around with pets and wildlife around the grounds. Lovely and quiet location.

Liked: What a gem of a place to find. Lovely small site but has everything you need. Lovely clean showers and toilets. We got a lovely welcome. Will definitely recommend we don’t have little children anymore but there is a great park for them. Also lovely neighbours with the chickens, rabbits and goats. Also has a lovely lake on the grounds.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: This site is beautifully remote, a few pitches with electric hook up, loved the feel of it as soon as we arrived, it’s quiet, with a beautiful green, trees, lake, chickens wandering around and rabbits, feel revived after just one night, despite the rain it’s well worth a visit, it will be even better when the sun shines - we will return 😀

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful site, the owners are very friendly, great place for peace and quiet. We were lucky to be there for the hog roast which was great value, with beautiful food! Small bar on site, and a nice place to take dogs too. Lovely walk around the lakes, beautiful surroundings. The fresh eggs were a bonus too.

Disliked: Miles away from anywhere! No local shop, so make sure you have everything you could possibly need before setting out. Facilities were clean, but could do with being updated. A bit pricey for what you get.

From the manager: Thank you for all of your comments we appreciate them. We are a small family run site 4 miles from the market town of Holsworthy (nearest shop) and only 12 miles from the coast at Bude. Our advert provides all of this information so that our guests have this information before booking and therefore hopefully know what to expect. Kind regards Lisa & Paul

Liked: Beautifully kept, family run site. Lots of space, clean facilities and peaceful too. Loved the chickens and rabbits roaming round the place and the fishing looked good, but my husband forgot his rods so we couldn’t try it out.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Quiet and peaceful campsite, chickens roaming around which our kids loved. Loads of space for playing games and beautiful surroundings to have an evening walk. Friendly family run and happy to help if we needed anything. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit again.

Disliked: Tricky lanes to tow a caravan down to access the site for those not confident especially if meeting another vehicle. Wish there were more families visiting at the same time for kids to play with.

Local attractions

Stay close to base or head out on a day trip around Devon and Cornwall: there's enough to do around here to keep you busy for weeks. A 25-minute drive just over the Cornish border will land you at the three spectacular sandy beaches of Bude (Summerleaze, Crooklets and Sandy Mouth), famed particularly for their surfing but also a top spot for sea fishing and for family sandy days. A grassy play park is behind Bude's tourist information centre if you're in town with the kids, and a splendid pirate play area is at Crooklets beach. If you're feeling especially energetic (and aren't on hol with kids), take the South West Coast Path from Bude for a hike of almost 10 miles to Crackington Haven, or – strong legs and disposition very much required – the 15 or so miles from Bude to Hartland Quay. For gentler strolls (if you're on hol with the kids), take the easy saunters along the towpath of the Bude Canal, or get cracking on the Bude Mystery Treasure Trail following the canal to the RNLI Lifeboat House via Bude Castle. Other top spots include the privately owned village of Clovelly (40 minutes' drive); the Museum of Witchcraft at Boscastle (45 minutes), and swashbuckling with King Arthur's lot at Tintagel, 55 minutes away.
