  • Spacious, lively park 10 minutes' walk from Ilfracombe town centre
  • Lots of family-friendly entertainment throughout the day and evenings
  • Large heated indoor pool with hot tub and sauna
Who’s up for a sociable stay with sea views, a short stroll from the stunning north Devon coastline? That’s the setup at friendly North Devon Resort, on a hillside 10 minutes’ trot from the town centre. This is a lively place that buzzes with all manner of activity – if you like to keep things convenient, this may just be the place for you. Without even venturing beyond the park’s gates you can play games of pool and crazy golf, swim in the balmy environs of the indoor pool or take it easy in the sauna or hot tub. There are tiptop times ahead for the tiddlers too; even those dreaded damp days shouldn’t dampen spirits, with an indoor soft play area and amusement arcade to spend time in and a collection of colourful characters enrolling the small sorts in all sorts of age-appropriate antics. Evenings are just as eventful, with a rolling roster of ents that might include shaking your stuff at the disco, winning cash prizes at the bingo (drinks are on you…) or just chilling out with pals at the friendly bar. Wander down into town for dinner if you like (there’s an excellent cluster of pubs and independent restaurants to pick from) or stick around on site for easy eats from the restaurant, curry house or takeaway. Among all this it’s a fab idea to factor in some time to get out and about: beaches, boat trips, surfing, fishing and golf are just some of the activities you might want to put on your agenda.

2 bedroom apartment

Liked: The staff were all very friendly. We stayed in just the basic lodge which was more than adequate for our needs, staying just the one night. It was great having the kitchen, fitted with microwave, fridge and freezer, kettle, cooker and dishwasher etc. and utensils, we were able to cook a hearty breakfast that night. It's great accommodation for a family on a budget. On site acilities were great too, loved the pool which was toasty warm and the sauna was a nice bonus. Even in off peak there was family entertainment during the day and night for all ages. Loved the fact it was dog friendly too.

Disliked: Our guide in our room was well out of date had no details of wifi, current entertainment and dining options. The tiles around the pool when wet are extremely slippery. No mention of a £75 holding fee for damages prior to arriving at the park. They need to big up their offerings regarding both in apartment facilities and on park facilities. Your website doesn't do it justice.

Local attractions

Coast calling your name? It’ll take you 20 minutes or so to wander down to Ilfracombe’s beaches, or to the harbour to set sail on sea safaris (seeking out seals, dolphins and porpoises) or take fishing trips. If you want to guarantee spottings of sea beasties, head to the town’s aquarium instead. Active times await along this stretch of coast too – the South West Coast Path is always a fab place for a walk, and there’s a rather gorgeous golf course a few minutes’ drive away. If you’re up for watery adventures, an activity centre 10 minutes’ drive away can take you paddleboarding, coasteering or kayaking, and there are surf lessons and waves to catch in Woolacombe (15 minutes away). Shudder at the thought of all this energetic stuff? Woolacombe’s sands are also ripe for swims and sandcastle building. Big beasts (present and past) can be seen over at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (20 minutes), and there’s heaps of fab stuff to see and do at family-friendly Watermouth Castle (10 minutes), including Victorian arcade machines, a toboggan run and a mighty water-powered musical organ.
