  • Adults-only farm site 10 minutes from English Riviera beaches
  • Outdoor haven: trails, tors and moors of Dartmoor within 30 minutes
  • Minibus service and fully licensed restaurant and bar on site
When the choice between beachy hols on the English Riviera and lush wanders in stunningly scenic national parks leaves you dithering, make your decision a doddle with a stay at Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, a family-run and adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Paignton on the Devon coast. The site's about 15 minutes from the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half an hour from Dartmoor National Park, so there are plenty of spectacularly green vistas to hike, bike or drive through within easy reach – not to mention waterfalls, river banks and craggy moors... If the first thing into your suitcase was a swimming cossie, you’ve packed well for this particular getaway: Paignton’s Preston Sands beach is less than 10 minutes away (there’s a shuttle service from the site). If your quick sandy stroll seems to be picking up speed, turn it into a long-distance jaunt by accessing up the South West Coast Path at either end of the beach. There’s a small shop on site for groceries if you fancy bringing picnic supplies on your day trips, or you can hold off for a home-cooked dinner at Poppies, the on-site restaurant (open from Easter to September). After that, wander over to Gordon’s bar for a drink, or to take in the live entertainment.

Liked: Very good site staff friendly facilities in good condition and cleanliness is maintained.

Disliked: If anything it’s a bit remote ….long walk to bus stop.

From the manager: Thank you for writing our first review of the 2024 season and for giving us such good scores. If you return during the busy months we have our minibus operating which will be easier than walking to the public bus stop. In the meantime, keep enjoying your breaks throughout the year and we hope to see you again.

Liked: Very clean facilities & level pitches. Staff were all very friendly & helpful. Liked that it was an adult only site. The site has a minibus which operates mostly during high season to take guests into Paighton & Torquay.

Disliked: Local bus stops were quite a hike away especially if the weather was bad. Site minibus unfortunately stopped running during my stay.

From the manager: We admire you for travelling solo and you are always welcome here. I'm very pleased you found all the team friendly and helpful and that you felt comfortable staying with us. Pity there were insufficient numbers to keep the bus operating during the full period of your stay but it is a very popular service throughout most of the season.

Excellent site, fabulous facilities, everything you need and more.

Liked: Everything. Such friendly, helpful staff. Great entertainment on site, restaurant was not open but the pizza van and breakfast/ jacket potato van did the trick. Lovely location looking across fields and near to the coast. Loved the enclosed dog park too.

From the manager: Superb. It looks like you made full use of our facilities and enjoyed yourselves. That's what it's all about. We hope to have The Funky Anchovy Pizza Van back next season. They were lovely. See you again next season.

Liked: Pitch was OK except people next to us didn't seem to know where there pitch was. Bar was good, facilities good.

Disliked: Was a bit disappointed about the duel carriage way but it didn't interfere with anything in the end.

From the manager: Not sure about your neighbours comments but I'm pleased that it didn't make a difference to you enjoying your stay. Hope to see you again next season.

Liked: All connection requirements. Sizing the unit allows for correct placement on site, I thought at 7.3m we were too long, not the case. Something on at the clubhouse every night. Different guest foods each evening too

Disliked: No bus stop at or immediately in front of site. Walking or short drive to nearest one

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and we'll look forward to your return sometime. We appreciate it's difficult not having a bus stop right outside the park which is why we have our minibus. Hopefully you used this service and saved yourselves the short walk to the public bus stop.

Liked: Everything, Widdecombe Farm is an amazing place to stay. It has fantastic amenities and the scenery is fabulous. The staff and people at Widdecombe are brilliant, they are friendly, sociable and genuinely nice people. It was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last. The different food available each night was fantastic especially the Barbecue run by Barry and Kathy. The club was an enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere each night. Our dog was a very popular lady more so than us and she was fussed and treated like the princess she is. Everyone at Widdecombe Farm, thank you for an absolutely wonderful holiday 😀 see you next year 😊

Disliked: Nothing

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We're still all having fun on our final week of entertainment in the bar. Wish you could have stayed longer. Some of the fancy dress costumes were brilliant. Keep enjoying touring around and we'll see you next season.

Liked: Friendly staff

Disliked: Not as advertised. There was no restaurant and the bar, which had very limited opening times, did not allow dogs although a fee for a dog is demanded in payment. No mention of the lack of this restaurant was made when booking. I normally choose sites where I can walk to amenities but went for this one for the advertised services. The site is situated on a busy dual carriageway so there is white noise day and night. We left early and will not be returning. Only the friendliness of the staff raises this from one star.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unexpectedly over the 3 nights you booked with us the restaurant was indeed closed due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we had arranged for alternative food services to be on site on a nightly basis for those not wishing to self cater. We even opened the bar earlier to allow people to sit inside or outside in the sunshine and enjoy a drink with their food. We do clearly state on our website that dogs are not permitted in the bar during high season and can only assume you missed this information prior to booking. There is plenty of undercover seating outside where you can still enjoy the entertainment or your drinks of an evening. We are of course sorry that we did not meet your expectations on our park facilities but we're extremely pleased to hear that you found all our team members friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Lack of on site catering, Constant low noise of traffic

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our restaurant has unexpectedly closed for the few remaining weeks of the season but we have made sure that alternative food services to be on site for those who do not with to self cater. Whilst this may not have proved of use to you they have all been very busy and well supported. Sadly, with no narrow lanes and easy access does mean as you say that we are subject to low traffic noise from the nearby road. Luckily it is low and doesn't negatively impact most peoples stay here. We would love to see you here again should you find yourselves in the area. You know how clean and tidy things are and perhaps a pitch slightly further onto the park may help.

Liked: The site was lovely, clean and quiet, easy to get to places, the cool in the restaurant was super nice and helpful

Disliked: Dogs not allowed in bar

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are constantly reviewing our procedures and policies. Regarding dogs in the bar this is the first year we've been able to have them in the bar during low season and it is something we will review again at the end of the season to look at options for the whole season. I can't promise immediate changes but be assured it will be considered if we can make it work for everyone using the bar. All feedback is welcome and we thank you for highlighting an issue you had.

Local attractions

This is Agatha Christie country, so if you’re looking to solve the mystery of what to do during your hols, you're sorted here too. Make your way into Torquay a 15-minute drive away for the Agatha Christie Mile – a walking tour of spots that inspired the author – and Kents Cavern, a prehistoric cave that served as Hampsley Cavern in her novel The Man in the Brown Suit. For a glimpse of Christie’s personal life, Greenway House at Brixham is where she spent summer and Christmas hols. If Greenway House whet your appetite for stately homes, zip along to Compton Castle (five minutes) for house and garden tours, or Cockington Country Park (10 minutes) for strolls around the extensive grounds and a glimpse of Cockington Court (now a craft centre). Not enough? Venture further afield for Coleton Fishacre, Buckfast Abbey and the 16-sided A la Ronde, all within 35 minutes. There are plenty of museums, steam trains and model villages nearby to keep history buffs entertained, but those who prefer more of a living and breathing experience should pad over to Paignton Zoo (within 15 minutes) instead.
