Higher Lillisford is a trendy caravan site offering electric hook-up and water on each plot. It is a great value site with no frills, offering amazing views of Haytor and the Dartmoors. The English Riviera and south Devon’s beautiful bay has some of the best beaches in the country and from the campsite you are well-placed to enjoy them. With over 22 to choose from, whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to sunbathe, a sandy stretch to build sandcastles or a safe place for the little ones to paddle, there’s something for everyone. From the site, walkers, cyclists and dog owners have many miles of safe, car-free lanes at their disposal. Dogs are welcome: the area makes for great walking and cycling is also ideal for visiting the coast or moors. There are no shower or toilet facilities on site, although there is an emptying point.

Local attractions

The campsite is located next door to the south west's premier show-jumping centre, where you are welcome to visit the weekly shows, have a snack in the café or enjoy browsing the outdoor clothing shop. You are also close enough to visit the national trust houses at Greenway, home of Agatha Christie, and Coleton Fishacre, the art deco home built into a private valley with the amazing gardens. Totnes, voted the trendiest town in Europe by British Airways, is only 2.5 miles away. The nearest pub is one mile away and has award-winning food at a sensible price. Further afield in Cornwall, the lost gardens of Heligan and the world-famous Eden Project, are a day well spent. Paignton Zoo is around six miles away: it is the second largest in the UK and most of the animals are in reproduced areas of natural habitat (a baby giraffe was born there in January 2015). You can also see the model village at Babbacombe, a lifetime mission by the owner, then take the cliff railway to the beach. Dainton Park offers a superb 18-hole golf course with a friendly welcome for visitors. Plymouth offers a wealth of history, remember Frances Drake playing bowls on the Hoe. It also has 500 years of naval history and Brittany Ferries serves several ports in France and Spain.
