Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We were able to pick our pitch from the ones available. All had lovely views with water & electric hook up. Lovely and flat hard standing with gravel to the side and grass. Great showers, hot water and spotless. Martin's Bar is amazing with Fire Service memorabilia including two very old fire engines. Very friendly staff, i particularly liked the online check in. Fantastic location, lots of walks available. Definitely be back

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Good facilities

Disliked: I booked to stay at Highlands End from 1st - 7th April. This was to celebrate my 50th birthday. On Thursday 04 April at 1900 hrs I returned to my motorhome to find the wind had ripped off the plastic cover on the sky light which left a square hole in the roof. My son is five years of age and is Autistic so of course I was very concerned as heavy rain was forecast. I spoke with site staff who directed me to the warden. I explained the situation and requested the use of a ladder and or some Gaffa tape. His reply’s to my requests: “It’s out of hours, I’m not insured” When I explained my son was autistic so sound sensory “don’t try and pull on my heart strings” When I sought clarification “I’m not going to help you tonight or tomorrow. I don’t need this, I’m having my dinner” As I result, I stayed up all night and then left the site at 0430 hrs the next morning as there was a break in the weather. It appears that the site does not have procedures in place to deal with any issues out of hours as they are not insured. As a parent of an autistic child, I constantly assess the environments I take him into. I chose to stay at Highlands End as it is ranked as one of the best sites in the Country. The facilities are good and the staff are friendly when you are spending money. Underneath the shine is a site that does not have any contingencies in place in case of an emergency. I am still angry at the response from the Warden. To be frank it is shocking.

From the manager: We most sincerely apologise to you and your family for the issues you experienced. This is not at all indicative of our normal response or standards; we are investigating this case as a matter of urgency, we take this matter very seriously indeed. As a 3-generation family business operating at Highlands End for over 50 years we certainly do have robust contingencies in place in case of emergency. We trust we can put matters right and that you can feel confident that any future visit would show our ongoing commitment to giving exemplary customer service.

Local attractions

From beaut beaches to historic towns, fossil hunting to wholesome hikes, the Dorset coast has a colossal amount of activities and attractions whatever floats your boat. Cast off for some sea fishing, take a boat trip or scuba dive to the depths from local beaches, or tee off instead with a course around the clifftop 18 holes of the Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club. West Bay and Bridport are both about a mile from Highlands End (just the right distance to walk for an ice cream on a sunny day), and at least a day is recommended in each: the miles of West Bay for sunbathing, watersports and landing mackerel from a boat; and the market town of Bridport for its 17th-century museum and the market, going strong since Elizabethan times and the place to pick up everyday items like local food and more outlandish bits and bobs like clothes and antiques. Beachcombers and fossil finders will probably find themselves at Lyme Regis at some point, one of the most famed stretches on the Jurassic Coast and along with Bridport one of its gateway towns – it was here that famous geologist Mary Anning made her first finds in the 19th century and the town holds an annual Mary Anning Day as well as the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival. Visitor centres and museums are dotted all around the coast; if you’re not sure where to start, most have guided tours available. Hikers will be happy too with the wealth of paths and bridleways snaking around coast and countryside from Highlands and beyond – the South West Coast Path follows the entire 95-mile Jurassic coastline and Dorset has around 300 miles of waymarked paths and trails. Buses stop at many coastal spots, or hire a minibus to spectate the scenery in style.
