  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Liked: Very clean and friendly park the shower and toilet area was also very clean. Bar area and swimming pool was great. Bus stop right out side the site was very handy,Lyme Regis one way and Bridport the other way or Wareham. Pub 10 minutes walk into Charmouth.

Disliked: The steep hill from the centre to the motorhome. After a meal and a few pints was challenging

Although you found it tough walking up the hill to your pitch after some drinks, we hope that the view that you woke up to was worth it (without a sore head). Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pitches tiered so could be overlooking the valley area. Staff, Cleaners all very friendly and helpful. As we were out of season the site was quiet. Use of pool etc was good, albeit an additional charge Shop of site well stocked Toilet shower area very clean, Washing Machine/Dryer area clean and works well. Within walking distance of the beach and local village, we used the Monarchs walk as that was an easier walk without climbing up and down hill, accessible for bikes, chairs, prams etc; although it could get muddy if it rained a lot. Down on the beach is a café, Toilets and a couple of car parks. Although we did not have any with use there seemed to be a lot for children to do ie indoor play outdoor play areas etc

Disliked: Pitching rules, because there are strict pitching rules your door opens onto a muddy puddle, also if you have a continental door opening you have no view of the valley just the next tier of campers above you. The hardstand pitches are not level. If you were pitched further over away from the main building I think the road traffic from the A35 could become an annoyance. Dishwashing area clean but only three sinks. We tried the Wifi but it was too slow for our TV

From the manager: Hi Derek, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a very detailed review, we do really appreciate both the positive feedback and your points that you have raised that we could improve on. We are pleased that you found the toilets/showers and wash up area clean, our housekeeping team work super hard so it is lovely to hear that their work is acknowledged. We are happy that you enjoyed our local area, we are very lucky to live in such a We do have rules for pitching, this is because we must abide by our fire regulations - it is just very unfortunate that the British weather hasn't been on our side so far this year! The wi-fi has recently been upgraded but sadly still won't be strong enough for streaming. Once again, thanks for your review and we hope to welcome you back soon! Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lots for the children to do Friendly staff Easily accessible Would come again Great WiFi!

Disliked: Not a ‘dislike’ but be aware … the site is close to a major road so you do get some late night noise. Indoor pool changing rooms were a bit grubby by mid afternoon - probably due to muddy conditions outside

From the manager: Hi Julie, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us but am sorry that the swimming pool wasn't kept up to our usual high standards. Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
