  • Well-kept family holiday park near the Jurassic Coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door
  • Peaceful site five minutes' drive from shops, pubs and a train station
Looking for the best of both worlds with seclusion and family activities to suit a range of crowds? Carve out the way to Woodlands Campsite, a private site in the middle of the Dorset countryside. Two miles from the small village of Wool and an easy 10-minute drive from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, you’ll be excellently positioned for all things fossil hunting, coastal walks and beach days… Your new base is situated in a tranquil setting surrounded by three acres of meadows. Access to the site is via a private gated entrance that leads into a large open area of green space fringed by trees (so, there’s plenty of greenery to wake up to each day). Carefully-tended barbecues and well-behaved dogs are also welcome at this friendly and laidback site. Woodlands Campsite, which has flushing toilets and a free shower block with hot water, would be well-suited to families who are looking to maximise their time in the surrounding area at a no-nonsense rural campsite. For a range of handy village amenities, steer yourself in the direction of Wool (five minutes' drive). There’s a shop for picking up supplies, or you could catch a train down to Bournemouth or Weymouth from the station or taste test the local ales at the pub.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: The campsite is a simple field but the owners are very friendly and welcoming. I travelled with my dog and they loved him! I felt very safe at the campsite as a female solo traveller and everyone from the tents surrounding us was very nice and helpful. The toilets are very nice quality and very clean, and the showers are great too. Both showers and toilets have enough space to bring your dog in (mine has separation anxiety so cannot be left by the tent). They provide slates and other equipment for you to put your cooker on so you don't burn the grass which is fab. There is a washing up station with hot water and there is a dog poo bin on site. We also received complimentary dog ice cream on arrival which distracted my dog whilst I put up the tent and he was a happy boy.

Disliked: Could probably do with more than two toilets but didn't have to wait that long to use them

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Location

Disliked: Site not maintain long grass Not enough facilities to shower and use the toilet one toilet and the other is in the shower so if they are showering you have one toilet. Un level pitches too close flet like it was in a garden of a Airbnb as their was one on the site.

Liked: Mark was a lovely host. Very chatty and amenable. I liked the fact that young adults with additional needs were helping Mark to learn every day skills

Disliked: There were not enough amenities for everyone. With 20 pitches there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers. It wasn’t pleasant being so cramped when everyone arrived. The tents were literally on top of each other with barely any privacy There was no shop onsite to even buy the essentials. The pitch sizes were only designed for small tents, which we didn’t have. We certainly didn’t have room for our toilet and shower tent which would have come in very handy rather than have to wait in line to use the toilet or shower. The website was not accurate and the photo’s over glamourised the actual site. It really is a small campsite with no charging points or electric pitches.

Liked: Lovely campsite 🏕️ toilet and shower facilities were lovely, clean and fully stocked. The staff were fantastic- so welcoming and accommodating. Would absolutely recommend! We took our bikes and it was a lovely ride to the local shop. A short drive to Durdle door which is an absolute must see! Very reasonably priced and an all round lovely spot! Will definitely be back with the children. Thank you!

Local attractions

What Jurassic coast wonders might you want to indulge in from Woodlands Campsite? Lulworth Cove (10 minutes’ drive) is a wise place to start, especially if you’re impartial to coasteering, swimming or hiking to caves, blow holes and other coves. Ticking off Durdle Door (10 minutes) is a big one too – just don’t forget to snap a selfie in front of the arches before heading for the sand. If you prefer to start with a little history, Lulworth Castle (10 minutes) has a grand look, and the grounds make a rather excellent picnic setting. There are hilltop ruins at Corfe Castle (15 minutes) and war tanks at The Tank Museum (10 minutes), or to pretend you're travelling back in the old days, there are steam train rides departing from Harman's Cross Station (15 minutes). Visiting a Dorset ghost village could also form a part of your plan - Tyneham (20 minutes) was left to its own devices in the war in 1943, and parts have been left untouched since. You may wish to return to the coast for a snorkelling session over the corals at Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes). There's plenty of plant life to admire at the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (40 minutes) too. If you'd rather watch monkeys in action, head to Monkey World (10 minutes).
