We are the Warren Farm family – the Smalls, James and Kate. The farm is run as a partnership between James, his father and mother Bill and Pat, and his uncle and aunt John and Ann. James’s grandfather came here in 1945, but the Small family has been in the area since the 18th century. Your tent is literally on top of the highest inland cliffs on our island, meaning the views around you are sweeping and stunning, and the walks vigorous and varied. Once night falls you’ll really feel you’ve escaped, and on a clear evening the display of stars is truly spectacular. Over the years, the farm has been extended, bringing it up to its current size. It now grazes cattle and sheep over several hundred acres of conservation land on behalf of the National and Somerset Wildlife Trusts. We also have about 50 acres of cereals and an outdoor pig unit. A small pheasant shoot takes place at Warren, so don’t be surprised to see some of these game-birds wandering around the hedges, especially in the autumn. James’s farm tour takes in both the animals and the way we look after the land. It’s conducted from a tractor and trailer and takes just an hour of fascinating sights, sounds and facts. We have a well-stocked farm larder that can provide for most of your needs while you’re with us, especially for the camp fire, like marshmallows and hot chocolate. You can pre-order most of your food supplies with us by booking one of our range of hampers, created especially for our Feather Down guests by the award-winning Farrington’s Farm Shop. This takes the strain out of shopping before you set off, as we will have it waiting for you in your tent upon arrival. Pets are welcome at Warren Farm, but only after the 1st of June.

Local attractions

Thirty minutes drive away from our idyll is Glastonbury, identified in Arthurian legend as the island of Avalon. Dating back later in medieval times is nearby Wells, England’s smallest city and home to “the most poetic of the English cathedrals”. To complete the tour through the ages, your route to Warren Farm will probably take you through the Georgian masterpiece that is the city of Bath. But if being active is more your thing, then you can choose between the attractions of caves at Wookey Hole, biking both on and off road, or a touch of fly fishing at the nearby lake of Blagdon. An absolute must-do is the energetic 45-minute walk down the valley to Cheddar, home to the village’s last cheese producer, The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Whatever it is you’d like to do, we’ll be delighted to help you make the most of your stay on our ideally located farm. List of things to do and see: • Cheddar Gorge, caves and rock climbing. • Wookey Hole Caves and paper mill. • Wells and its cathedral • Town of Glastonbury and its Abbey. • Bristol • Bath • Street with Clarkes Village (Factory outlet shopping centre) and shoe museum. • Somerset Rural Life Museum. • Puxton Farm Park and soft play barn. • Weston Super Mare and its newly re-opened Grand Pier. • East Somerset steam Railway. • Horse World, Whitchurch near Bristol. • Longleat safari park and house. • Farleigh Hungerford Castle, near Bath. • Nunney Castle near Frome. • Over 500 acres of Nature Reserves that you can access from the farm.
