  • Close to golf courses and a carp fishing lake
  • Modern shower and toilet block, launderette and play area
Somerset views, Somerset strolls and Somerset fishing? Have the lot and more at touring park Somerset View, a nifty base for traversing Somerset and north Devon or for stopping off to and from Cornwall because of its convenience to the M5's Junction 24. As it's on the southern edge of the Quantock Hills, miles' worth of public walking trails are easily reached from here; if you'd rather wield club or rod, several local golf courses are close by and a carp fishing lake is just across the road. Town time? Bridgwater and Taunton are four to five miles away and reachable by public transport if you want to leave the car behind. Facilities at this scenic site include a play area; a modern toilet and shower block, close to the pitches; a launderette; a washing-up area and chemical disposal. The village of North Petherton with shops, post office, pubs, eateries and a small supermarket is half a mile away. Site guests are welcome at the neighbouring rugby club bar.

Local attractions

You can use Somerset View as a stopover on your merry way to or from Cornwall, but as it's handily set for getting around Somerset and north Devon, it's a convenient base at which to stay put for a spell. The Quantock Hills to the west of Somerset View's local town of Bridgwater were the first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England: as you'd expect, scenic hikes, hacks and bike rides aplenty are around here, for views towards local landmarks like Glastonbury Tor, the Mendips, Exmoor and as far as the Gower Peninsula to the north. The Somerset coast at Burnham-On-Sea is 14 miles away, with neighbouring seaside spot Weston-super-Mare a bit further along the coast. Going in the other direction, the Devon end of the spectacular Jurassic Coast is reachable within about 35 miles. Inland, famed Somerset and south-west highlights easily doable for day trips include Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor, about 20 miles away; Cheddar Gorge and its caves, within 22, and the witchy caves of Wooky Hole, also 22 miles from base. Another top option is county town Taunton about five miles away: if you want yet more Somerset hiking, it's surrounded by the Blackdown Hills as well as the Quantocks, and has the Bredon Hills to the south-west, all the way to Exmoor National Park.
