  • Peaceful and spectaculary scenic site with private fishing lakes
  • A 15-minute drive from Longleat and 20 minutes from Bath
  • Café, play areas and miniature golf
You might want to arrange things so you're able to stay here for quite some time... Family-friendly, pet-friendly and spectacularly scenic Fairwood Lakes is a peaceful and remote park under the Salisbury Plains. It guarantees excellent facilities, a warm welcome, first-rate accommodation and return-to-nature retreats set deep in countryside for couples and families. This is a highly scenic site, close to lakes and woodland: come here to fish, to laze or to use it as a base for investigating the lush landscapes and ancient sights within easy driving distance (Bath is 20 minutes from base and Stonehenge within half an hour; the site is also within 15 minutes of the fab Longleat House and Safari Park). The heart of the park is its lovely lakes, with carp up to 27lb, silverfish and pike all here to catch (fishing permits can be purchased from reception). And if you don't fancy angling? Amble around the lakes instead, for a peaceful several hours of daydreaming and wildlife spotting, or lie back with a book while the kids let loose in the play areas... there are three on site, including a large soft play area; the Little Tikes outdoor adventure play area, specifically for toddlers, and an outdoor play area for ages three and up. There is also miniature golf available on site. Among the swish facilities is a café, with wifi, an extensive decking area and a good range of freshly prepared breakfasts, sandwiches, light lunches, fresh coffees and homemade cakes to have in or take away. Special theme nights including summer barbecues and curry nights are held throughout high season. Its amenities include dishwashing facilities, toilet blocks, disabled toilets and chemical disposal points.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: The staff were very helpful and friendly. The site was tidy and had everything we needed for our four night stay. The toilet and shower room was very clean. There were lots to do with children ... a soft play area, a lot of playground equipment and an area for ball games. Although everywhere was muddy the lake area and would clearly be beautiful in sunnier months.

Disliked: You could hear regular trains going by. This did not disturb us much.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Soft play, gravel pitches, friendly staff, delicious food in the cafe, clean toilets, play areas and walks. Beautiful site.

Disliked: Bit of a long walk to the toilets as only one block which is not in the field of pitches. Waste disposal area a bit smelly.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: The site was well managed, the grounds were clean and tidy. We took a walk around the lake which was beautiful, the bridge was closed off due to the recent floods and high winds, we appreciated the notice for our own safety. Showers weren't the best however not the worst either, spray was terrible, having thin hair I struggled washing the suds out but these are third world problems. They were clean and tidy but don't spend too long otherwise the lights go off and your showing in the dark! Yes I speak from experience. Staff are helpful and friendly. Plenty to do for the children, large play park with both natural and man made resources covered by the trees so even in the rain they can play happily. Mini golf- does what it says on the tin. Soft play open along with the café 9-5 Mon-Fri or 10-4 Sunday. Clean and big enough to keep my 3,7,and 8 yr olds busy, slightly cold with it not being in a building as such so jumpers are a must in the cold. Age cut off if 12 and they must be supervised by an adult which they are hot on for health and safety reasons. Café is reasonably priced we can vouch for the coffee and hot chocolate being delicious! We took part in the craft available in the train, the children made tissue paper lanterns using glass jars, they were free to make and take away. We visited paultons park which was 70 minutes away, a great day out, wasn't busy probably due to it being October. Plenty of national trust properties around the area if your members, all within 70 minutes of the holiday park. Definitely recommend!!!

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Very pretty place. Came with our grandson. He loved the woods and lakes and the indoor play centre. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Only that we were pitched at the very far end of the park....in the dark and quite away from all amenities. I also think 10AM check out is a bit early....when on holiday the last thing you want to do is rush around on your last day.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: The surroundings are amazing. Lakes on the site and walks close by. The kids facilities are brilliant with lots to do. The park is well kept and plenty of space on the pitches. Nice hot water at the showers.

Disliked: The showers in the gents were not that great. The water comes out of the button on some and the shower heads don’t let water out well, it’s a bit of a dribble. Also the smell of the sceptic tank is pretty bad walking to and from the toilets and washing up area.

Local attractions

What a lot there is to do around Fairwood Lakes's Westbury town and Wiltshire county location, from ancient gorges and ancient stones to exotic animal centres and racing car circuits. About 20 minutes away, lovely old Bath is famed most for its baths (funny, that), made popular by posh sorts in Victorian times, and for its Jane Austen Centre, a persuasively interesting house with museum and Regency tearoom. If you fancy doing something a bit different/more boastworthy, take to the skies above in a hot air balloon. Even more famed is Stonehenge 30 minutes away, for hours' worth of pondering just why ancient peeps decided to haul these mammoth rocks to stand up. The visitor centre has some suggestions, along with 250 ancient objects and tools of Neolithic life. All a bit too tame? Zip along to the motorsports of Castle Combe Circuit; tackle the sheer rock face and climb of Cheddar Gorge; watch the geegees hurtle along at Bath Racecourse, or take the kids to meet the witch at the Wookey Hole Caves.
