  • Friendly site within walking distance from pubs and shops
  • Sheltered, pet friendly and eight kilometres from the Cliffs of Moher
  • Stroll straight down to the sea from the site
Off on a tour of the Republic of Ireland and Co Clare? First up, congrats on your excellent taste, and second up, stop off at Doolin Riverside Caravan and Camping Park for a base close to the magnif Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands and the spa town (and matchmaking capital) of Lisdoonvarna... and within easy tottering distance of village pubs, restaurants and traditional toe-tapping Irish music every night of the week. It's only eight kilometres to the Cliffs of Moher from here, or seven if you're up for hoofing it through the green Clare countryside and along the Ballard Road. Cyclists can take their two wheels cliffwards too: for these and other hiking and biking routes in the region, pick yourself up a free map from the friendly Doolin team. It's simple to stroll straight down to the sea from here as well, so bring your togs and your beach blankie along with your other kit. For settling down of an evening after getting fully acquainted with the local Guinness, Doolin Riverside is in a small and handsome setting overlooking the Aille river, set up in the grounds of the family's farm. It's well sheltered from any Clare wind that might be passing, and well supervised by the site team. The plentiful – and spotless – amenities include toilets and showers, a launderette, a washing-up area and a parent and baby washroom. There's a guest kitchen and a food shop too, and campfires are allowed if you'd like to spark up supper in these peaceful countryside surrounds.

Route directions

From the Cliffs of Moher, go towards Lisdoonvarna (N67), continue for 6km, and turn left for Doolin. When you reach the main crossroad which is the centre of Doolin (Hotel Doolin is on your right-hand side), go straight. We are situated over the Aille River Bridge on the left-hand side behind O'Connor's Guesthouse.

Local attractions

Coastal walks, pony trekking, pitch and putt, and sea and lake fishing are all nearby, along with day trips to famed attractions like the Aran Islands and the Burren National Park. Galway is within an hour and a half's drive. As well as its traditional music in the friendly pubs, local village Doolin is known as a centre for surfing, around Crab Island and just off the Moher cliffs (where you might be fortunate enough to ride the country's biggest wave, Aill na Searrach). Climbing's a top pick around here too, with 18 sea cliff routes around Doolin, and a popular climbing centre under 15 minutes' drive away at Ailladie. Cavers have Doolin Cave (five minutes) and Aillwee Cave (30 minutes) to explore; golfers can tackle the course at Lahinch (20 minutes), and single sorts could arrange to be in town for the world-famed Lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival each September, where 40,000 flock looking for love.
