Dart along here for hugely scenic hols by Irish waters: Lough Arrow Touring Caravan Park, just outside Boyle in Co Sligo, overlooks the shores of Lough Arrow, and is in a lush location for getting out and about around Ireland's gorgeous north west. This award-winning site is in a conservation Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the border of County Roscommon in a peaceful rural setting with views over the lake. Have days out at Sligo or along the Wild Atlantic Way from here, land brown trout in the waters of Lough Arrow, wander among megalithic tombs or have a forest hike… all are within easy reach. Previous guests have waxed lyrical about all aspects of this smashing site: the spotless amenities, the good range of facilities and the friendly and helpful approach by owners Cath and John. Guests have access to a club room with woodburning stove, tourist information, a book swap, a TV, a dartboard and board games, as well as a washing-up room, a laundry room and a heated and immaculately-kept amenities block with free hot showers. A shop with basic groceries, chilled and frozen foods is also on site: stock up here to sort supper in the Lough Arrow campers' kitchen, or pick up supplies in Boyle, 15 minutes' drive away, where there are plenty of shops and a farmers' market every Saturday.

Local attractions

Ask Cath and John for their top tips on Co Mayo, Roscommon and north-west Ireland activities and attractions: you'll find plenty to do whatever flavour of holiday you fancy. As any angler worth their bait will know, Ireland overall is a splendid fishing spot, with the likes of salmon and trout to be landed up and down the country. Lough Arrow is famed for its brown trout fishing – specimens of around 7lb are regularly landed here – and you can also cast off in nearby rivers or a 10-minute drive away in Lough Key. Boat hire is available less than five minutes' drive from the site. For hikes, head to Lough Key Forest & Activity Park (20 minutes), wander the shores of Lough Gill (40 minutes), or roam the beaches at Lissadell Strand, Aughris Head and Mullaghmore, 45 to 55 minutes from the site. The Miners Way and Historical Trail, with standing stones and megalithic tombs enroute including the famed Carowkeel passage tombs, is accessible nearby. Another excellent option for a day out is the Co Leitrim town of Carrick-on-Shannon (20 minutes), for shops, restaurants and boat trips on the River Shannon.
