  • Peaceful setting on the Kintyre peninsula
  • Canoe hire, lessons and guides available nearby
  • Close to ferry ports for Islay, Gigha and Arran
Argyll's Tarbert Holiday Park is on the Kintyre peninsula in the west of Scotland, between Loch Fyne and West Loch Tarbert. Canoes can be hired from a watersports centre nearby; if you need a bit of guidance, you can take a kayaking or paddleboarding lesson or trip or ask a guide to keep you company alongside your canoe. On land, the 100-mile Kintrye Way starts near the site's local village of Tarbert, two miles away; golf is within a couple of miles, and you can take day trips to the scenic (and whisky-producing) islands of Islay and Jura 30 miles away via the nearby ferry. Tarbert Holiday Park has free wifi and a toilet block with showers and disabled facilities. Dogs are welcome. Barbecues are allowed on site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: This well cared for site is just a few minutes drive from the picturesque harbour of Tarbert. The hardstanding pitches are level and have EHU, potable water and grey water disposal on each pitch. The shower block is heated and was kept spotless throughout my visit. The walk from the site along the forest road to Tarbert is highly recommended but the sign post on the site states 3km which is inaccurate, it's almost 4 miles. You would need a map or an app to ensure you take the left turn off the forest road down to Tarbert via the castle remains. Whilst I was there (March) the on-site cafe was open Weds to Sun 9am to 3pm and you couldn't fault the service or quality. The manager was very accommodating and afforded me flexibility with my stay whilst I visited friends.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Level pitches Fully serviced pitch Modern shower block Amazing kitchen/tv room Great cafe Nice views Friendly staff Nice location Great free WiFi We would highly recommend and possibly the best site we have ever stayed at.

Disliked: Shower’s could do with staying on longer via the button. Few more signs when leaving the site heading to Tarbert, however was a good map on site. We should of taken a photo as we got lost 😌

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely owner called to let me know where to go when I got in as I was arriving late off the ferry and explained everything. Nice site, tidy and well laid out. Didn’t use the cafe but it looked nice. Wash up area was great and had all the scrubbers and fairy liquid you needed. Good Wi-Fi throughout.

Disliked: The showers were decent but quite small. Not much room to be changed in without stepping all over the wet floor. One of the toilets was also blocked, not the owners fault at all but with only two available was a bit inconvenient.

Local attractions

The surrounding lochs are the main pull of this spectacular region, so get out onto the water via an instructor-led canoe trip straight from the site, or by paddleboard or kayak with the help of the watersports centre next door. All sorts of other activities are accessible from Tarbert two miles away: there's fishing from here and along the loch shore; wildlife-watching cruises from the harbour, and teeing off at Tarbert Golf Club, a nine-hole course among lush green surrounds. Also from the village, set your feet or bike wheels along the long-distance route of the Kintyre Way, which runs all the way along the Kintrye Peninsula from Tarbert in the north to Machrihanish in the south. The first stretch is the 11-mile hike from Tarbert to Claonaig, past hill paths and forest trails, Skipness village and Robert the Bruce's castle. The megalithic site of the standing stones at Ballochroy are 12 miles away; off the peninsula, you could venture to the Scottish Beaver Trial project at Knapdale (15 miles); Achamore Gardens on the island of Gigha (15 miles), or to Islay and Jura, within 30 miles.
