Local attractions

For a camping and caravan location it simply doesn't get much better than this. The park is set In the idyllic grounds of Thirlestane Castle - a magnificent 16th Century Castle and family home of the Duke of Lauderdale. Thirlestane Castle is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland and still remains a family home to the Maitland family today. During the summer months Thirlestane Castle and grounds are open to visitors and guests at the Caravan Park get a 20% a discount on entry fee - check out the website for Castle opening hours. There is an adventure playground for the kids and a warm and friendly Tea Room which serves a tasty selection of drinks, sandwiches and home baking. The Borders has much to offer including many other historical homes and buildings - Melrose Abbey, Traquair House, Mellerstain and Abbotsford. Activities available close at hand include fishing and several golf courses, and the Southern Upland Way can be accessed within just 300 metres. The towns of Melrose, Selkirk, Hawick, Peebles, Galashiels, Kelso and Jedburgh are all close at hand, while those wishing to visit Edinburgh for the day will appreciate the convenient journey time by car of just 45 minutes or 1 hour by direct bus, and now with Stow train station only 5 minutes drive away. Children love it too with most local attractions having childrens programs such as Paxton House, Floors Castle and Edinburgh Castle. The local towns too all have special places for small people, watch out for "Pot a doodle doo" near Berwick, The Donkey Sanctuary near Melrose and an amazing adventure park in Selkirk. Check out The Maltings a great little Theatre and Cinema or perhaps pet a friendly shark! We are just kidding! but you can see them at The Deep Aqaurium in Edinburgh.
