  • Well-kept riverside park close to Greenlaw and 37 miles from Edinburgh
  • Fly fish on the river or play bowls on the village green
  • Five golf courses within 15 minutes
No, not those kinds of Blackadder, we promise they’ll be no Baldricks or slithering little critters in sight here... we’re talking about Blackadder Holiday Park on the banks of the Scottish Borders’ Blackadder Water. Set along the riverbank, just 37 miles from Edinburgh, take a trip to Blackadder for relaxation, exploration, or just to enjoy a little messing about by the river. If the name of the park alone is enough to have you tempted, rural and history lovers alike will enjoy setting foot into the little town of Greenlaw, close by too. If you want to do more than dip your toes in, you can dive into the activities on offer at and around the park. Take a stroll or a more demanding hike from the site, or try a spot of fly fishing on the river or at the other watery hotspots and reservoirs nearby. Sun shining? Refreshments flowing? Then it’s time to take to the village bowling green (which you can access straight from the park) for a bit of friendly competition, or for those who prefer their terrain tougher, cyclists of all abilities can charge downhill, pace themselves uphill or take the family along flatter country lanes to soak in all the sites of the area. A little birdie also tells us you can tee off at any one of five (yes, five) golf courses within 15 minutes of the park - don’t be putt off by the choice, we assure you none are below par. If the entertainment around this family- and pooch-friendly park isn’t enough, how about picking your own pitch and kicking back to hear the sound of...nothing. This quiet, relaxed site prides itself on its wild, natural and all-out calming atmosphere, where you can be as lazy as the river flowing alongside. The modern and well-kept amenities block, with hot showers included in the price of your stay, plus convenient washing-up and launderette facilities, and a play area for the children when they’re not investigating the wildlife around them, really does make an easy stay for all. Bliss...

Local attractions

Fancy a little bit of hissstory on your Blackadder trip? There are manor houses and museums (which tell tales from as far back as the seventeenth century) all around. The Edwardian country house of Manderston, the Georgian Mellerstain House, the award-winning Paxton House (complete with a 70-painting strong gallery) or the Coldstream Museum (which is free to visit) all offer little learners and adults alike memorable factoids to take home and use to impress. Lindesfarne Castle is just shy of 30 miles from the site too. Along with exquisite homes and manicured gardens that will make the green-fingered positively delirious, you can also take a folky jaunt to the Rhymer’s Stone Viewpoint where, legend has it, Thomas the Rhymer met the Fairie Queen. How fable-ous. Golf, fly fishing, bowls, clay pigeon shooting, motorsports, horse racing - there’s never a dull moment in and around Blackadder Holiday Park. Luxury fitness suites, lounges, bars, and restaurants will provide a well-deserved break after a round (or two, or three) at one of the five Blackadder-recommended local golf courses; the salmon and trout fishing opportunities will have anglers scaling the rivers and reservoirs for treasures, while the pony trekking and equine treats at the ground of the Kelso Races will be sure to put a trot in your step. Cycle or trek your way around the Scottish Borders from here. Climb the Southern Uplands Way, embark on the Scottish ‘coast to coast’ route, saddle up and take to the tough terrain or saunter with the family down country paths…We know there are some pubs close by waiting to dish you up some tradition grub or a swift pint afterwards. One, just eight miles from Blackadder, has had the seal of approval from the Good Pub Guide too. Cheers to that. Hop in the car to visit the five beaches within 20 miles of Blackadder, or, further afield for a change of scenery, visit the cities of Glasgow (just under two hours north-west) or Edinburgh, just over an hour northward. Shopping, eating, drinking and ghost tours aplenty must be enjoyed.
