Local attractions

It's a 15-minute field-based walk or a mere half-mile drive from the site to reach the western shore of Loch Ness, where you can take a fishing trip or a leisurely pleasure cruise out onto the water. To find out more all about it, the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre in Drumnadrochit has seven themed areas packed with info on the loch and its famed monster Nessie. The centre also has a cafe, a shop selling local produce such as whisky and woollens, and ticket sales for Loch Ness cruises, passing Urquhart Castle. More ancient history can be had at the Corrimony Chambered Cairn 10 miles away, the excavated passage grave surrounded by a circle of 11 standing stones; for nature spotting and birdwatching, have a day around the RSPB Corrimony Nature Reserve, also within 10 miles. Golf, swimming, curling, museums, theatres, shopping and nighgtlife all await in Inverness, 15 miles away.
