  • Stays on a luxury self-contained canal boat in Edinburgh city centre
  • A 15-minute walk from Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Mile area
  • Kitchen, wifi, shower room and two canopied outdoor decking areas
Fancy a cosy canalside stay for your escapade to Edinburgh? Cast your eyes on The Four Sisters Boatel, a wide-beam canal barge permanently moored in the capital of Scotland’s city centre, where you can settle right there on the water… A fab four-star self-catering option in the Lochrin Basin, this floating space also has a few things you wouldn’t usually get in accommodations on land, including room for up to six adults and two children (under 10 years old) and a full-size galley kitchen with modern facilities. There’s also a shower room containing an electric toilet – plus free posh toiletries – and two canopied decking areas at either end of the barge for evenings watching sunsets on the water in a serene section of the city centre. But while the area’s quiet, the boatel is still close to the sights: it’s in the Fountainbridge neighbourhood, a short walk from independent shops and restaurants, and just a 15-minute wander from Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Mile. Ready to snooze? Get back on board after touring the old town – sleeping arrangements include a couple of double cabins, kids’ bunk beds and a double sofa bed in the lounge.

Local attractions

Edinburgh is your oyster during a stay at this boatel. It’s close to city centre sights like the castle (a 15-minute walk), home to the country’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, as well as the handsome old buildings on the four connecting streets that make up The Royal Mile. If your legs still need stretching after huffing up the hills in this neighbourhood, amble to Arthur’s Seat (50 minutes) for views across Edinburgh, then come back down via Holyrood, Scotland’s parliament (half an hour’s walk), to check out the exterior of this contemporary building. Have a gander at the inside during a guided tour and, when parliament is in session, watch the political goings-on from the public gallery. For other types of visual entertainment, spend evenings at one of the theatres or comedy clubs in the city – Edinburgh’s known for its thriving arts scene – then follow up with a couple of nightcaps in bars around the Grassmarket (15 minutes). Finish your day by heading home to sleep soundly as the gentle sway of the boat lulls you to sleep…
