  • Modern cottage overlooking Loch Tay and Taymouth marina
  • Lochview seafood restaurant and grill
  • Canoe, kayak, stand-up paddles, motorboats and catamarans for hire
Swit swoo… Wait ‘til you get a load of this swish and swanky site (cue a good long peek at the pics): super modern decor, light and airy living spaces with access to a huge and verily viewsome glass-sided sauna, a splendid lochview seafood restaurant and grill, watersports, a water trampoline and – perhaps most pleasing of all? – utterly smashing views out over Loch Tay. Once all settled in – perhaps after a nice posh glass of bubbles to celebrate your arrival to the swanky new holiday abode – you might want to head to the lochside restaurant to sample some Scottish produce – freshly caught fish and locally reared meat are on the platters and plates here at lunch and dinnertime, and breakfast begins at 11am (elevenses, anyone?) with hot drinks and light bites such as breakfast rolls and scones. When suitably settled in, stir yourself to head down to the loch for watersports – there’s lots for one to get stuck into here, and all the kit for hire too; buoyancy aids are included with all rentals, and you can hire a wetsuit if you don’t have your own. Open Canadian canoes, double and single kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are available for solo and tandem tours of the waters, while angling experts can rent themselves a motorised fishing boat by the hour or the day, and qualified sailors too can rent themselves a catamaran sailboat for the day or by the hour (minimum two hours). For those partial to a slower-paced watery pootle, pedalos can be rented by the half hour, or if you’ve got excitable tiddlers or teens with you, then the big inflatable water trampoline is a whole heap of fun too – you can reach this via the site's private lake beach. When one’s had enough fun on the water, a sit in the huge glass-sided sauna right on the shores of Loch Tay is highly recommended. Fably fired by a giant wood burner, this super sauna’s window stretches across the entirety of its 12-metre length for yet more splendiferous views out over the loch, and is served by its own lawn, firepit and bar – très handy for when wants to duck out for a gasp of air while remaining warm and watered.

Local attractions

A stay alongside Perthshire’s largest loch throws up plenty of opportunity for on-land and water-based outdoorsy activity: watersports are available from the resort, and if you’re curious about the wildlife that lives around the loch – as well its heritage and the local folklore – you can hop on a boat safari right next door for an hour-and-a-half tour led by a knowledgeable and friendly native skipper. For a spot more Scottish culture and heritage, right next door is the Scottish Crannog Centre too. As you’d probably expect from a site as scenic as this, plenty of hiking trails lie all around it, such as one that begins a short amble towards the village of Acharn and through a wooded gorge to a small manmade cavern known by locals as ‘Hermit’s Cave’. Another popular local trail is that which runs between Kenmore and Wade's Bridge, an easy walking trail along the banks of the River Tay that takes you to the north side of the historic Wade's Bridge, with the option of branching off to visit pretty little villages like Weem, Camserney and Dull. Other options while here include golf, half an hour’s drive down the lochshore, and a bungee-jumping spot about 40 minutes’ drive away in Killicrankie. For something decidedly less scary, however, then Kenmore is home to Dewars whisky distillery, around which sorts partial to a can take a (wobbly) guided tour.
