  • Family-friendly farm site with stunning views of Conwy valley
  • A 15-minute drive from hiking, biking and rambles in Snowdonia
  • Hot tub on site, and fresh eggs available every day
Hilly Snowdonia, stunning valley views and egg-cellent breakfasts float your boat? Flow along to Fron Farm Shepherd’s Huts, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from Bryn Pydew and 10 minutes from the seaside town of Llandudno in the Conwy region of Wales. About 15 minutes’ drive from Snowdonia National Park, this is unsurprisingly a top spot for rambling, hiking and biking and there are loads of routes for all difficulty levels. If the park isn’t beckoning, the owners will be happy to point you in the direction of some local walks that leave right from site, including a 15-minute walk to a nearby obelisk where you can get some splendid views of Anglesey and beyond. Feel free to bring your canine pal along for the walks, but remember that this is sheep country and letting them run wild could lead to baa-d outcomes… There are also plenty of chickens and ducks roaming around the farm, so if you want eggs for your brekkie, you’re going to want to keep your best friend on a tight leash. After your days of wandering through the Welsh countryside, head back to site to unwind tired muscles in the outdoor hot tub (shared between both huts), soaking up the views over the Conwy valley and parts of the Snowdonia mountain range before firing up the barbecue for some outdoorsy eats. If you fancy something you didn’t have to cook yourself, there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Had a wonderful stay with lots of exploring. Great hosts very welcoming and helpful, and really have thought of everything. The huts are lovely with excellent wifi and tv reception. The views are stunning, and even more beautiful when relaxing in the private hill top hot tub or lovely fire pit seating area. I would recommend a visit and i have plans to return. Just what i needed my dog loved the place too

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The cleanliness, hot tub, changing and relaxing area. Dave the host was lovely, informative and genuinely nice. Cooking facilities provided and little touches were appreciated. Mattress very comfy and 2 of the pillows were lovely and firm The view over Conwy is truly breathtaking too. Location is good for most resorts. It's dog friendly which suited us. They provided tea, coffee, sugar, a torch, brolley microwave and a sun terrace all crockery firepit and logs. All bedding, glasses, and even a bottle of Prosecco. Both huts were designed to accommodate most needs and very clean and smelt lovely.

Disliked: Omg the hill up to the hot tub and changing area. Soo steep and no mention of it on the site. I suffer from arthritis and it literally killed me going up and down to the toilet and shower. Also it's soo dark around the site. We purchased some solar lights and lamps to make it brighter and safer. Some solar lights in the trees around the firepit would help. No cooking oil provided so trying to fry an egg was difficult. The lack of light around the cooking area was a shame as it meant cook before dark or you can't see. There wasn't adequate meal preparation surface. The height of the bed sadly was too high! I'm only 5ft 4 and an absolute nightmare to climb up and down for the toilet and then that hill to also tackle. The road leading to the site is dreadful. It's too steep to walk up and uneven and rocky. We scraped all underneath our car going up and down it. There is literally nowhere to walk after dinner and it's pitch black so we did feel trapped. I'm only saying these things to help because they matter. Everyone has standards and basic needs and sadly not all were met. A fan should be provided as the huts are hot and stuffy, but you risk creatures flying in if you leave the windows open all night. We bought a fan from Argos as the dogs were hot and panting in the night. And it was a god send as the weather was very hot which was lovely for our honeymoon.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review and comments. We are glad that there were a lot of things you enjoyed about your stay including the Prosecco which we thought would be a nice gesture for your honeymoon. We are a little disappointed with what you disliked about the huts. There are steps and a hand rail for the 20 meters between the hut and the toilets but are unable to do anything else with the incline. I wish you would have told us about having difficulty with the bed as we could have easily moved you to the other hut which would not be an issue for you. We would not normally provide cooking oil for guests but appreciate your comments about lack of lighting around the cooking area and will plan for extra lighting to be installed as soon as possible. There are some solar lights on site and lights all round the hot tub decking - and both huts are supplied with touches - however being in the countryside there will a lack of other lighting. The road to the huts is a farm track and care does need to be taken but adds to the adventure of being in the middle of the countryside with our stunning views. There are some lovely walks direct from the farm - but appreciate after dark these would not be suitable but a range of taxis could have taken you to the local pub 10 mins away, Llandudno 15 mins away or the lovely town of Conwy also 15 mins away - which is all lit up and visible from the hut and hot tub. I hope the above helps and sorry to hear you won’t be visiting us again but glad that you would recommend to your friends. Many thanks for your booking Dave and Adrianne

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The hut was perfect for our stay! The view from the farm is beautiful. The hut has everything you could need, outdoor cooking and seating area and the shared bathroom and hot tub were great. All clean and presentable. We were lucky that our neighbours in the next hut were lovely! The host was great, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend!

Disliked: Nothing!

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Was greeted by the owners on arrival and made to feel very welcome. They were LOVELY and genuine and to be honest I couldn't fault the place if I tried. EVERYTHING was considered for us inside the hut and out. Everything. There is an annexe both huts get to use for washing, showers teeth etc and to get changed and dry in while you use the Hot tub. The Hot Tub has a view I've only bettered in my life time in the Himalayas while sitting in a hot spring in Spitti Valley some 4000m high looking at 6000m peaks. The scenic location of this place is GOBSMACKINGLY beautiful. Truly.. The path into the farm is quite rough but it's fine , I was using a small hatchback on this trip and slow and steady was all that was needed in the wet or dry. Not an issue what so ever. None. For us, the owners espe made the stay very erstwhile and we really were made to feel very very welcome. My young son got to pick out the chicken eggs in the morning which made his day and I made them for breakfast this morning as to goes. Thanks. I will definitely RETURN to this place in the future. No doubt.

Disliked: Nothing to add.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The hut was clean and tidy. There were plenty of utensils to use the bbq. The shared bathroom and lounge area was useful when using the hot tub. Great communication from owners. Friends stayed in the other hut so we had full access to everything ourselves.

Local attractions

Architecture buffs might want to make immediate tracks to Menai Bridge half an hour’s drive away to have a gander at the spectacular Telford-designed suspension bridge across the strait to Anglesey. If it’s old piles rather than bridges that get you going though, you’re well-served here too: Penrhyn, Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Conwy and Bodelwyddan castles are all within 40 minutes, and simply stunning Errdig Hall is just over an hour away. More active types should hop a wave to Surf Snowdonia (the only artificial surfing lake in the UK) for bodacious boarding, then carry on to Llanrust for downhill ziplines and rope courses, and zip over to Penrhyn Quarry half an hour away for the longest zipline in Europe. If it rains during your stay, take the action below ground for some subterranean adventures at Bounce Below – a cave-based trampoline centre – or the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, both around 45 minutes away. Want to finish your holidays on a boozy note? Tipplers and sippers are within stumbling distance of Gwinllan Conwy Vineyard for tours and tastings, so pour yourself into the car (nab a designated driver) and head over for a couple of glasses of vino.
