  • Glamping on the edge of Snowdonia National Park
  • Deep in green countryside but 10 minutes' drive from Caernarfon
  • Camp kitchen, bike storage, solar showers and firepits included
Plonk yourself down in a choice spot between the mountains and the sea at Cae’r Boncath Glamping, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park and a 15-minute drive from the coast. Part of a smallholding among peaceful and green countryside, it's a sheltered spot in a wildlife haven – it's named after the buzzards that nest in the adjacent bluebell wood and over 50 species of bird have been spied (so far) in the surrounds, so don't forget to bring your binoculars if you're into such things. Although it's deep in countryside for relaxing stays, Cae'r Boncath is a mere 10-minute drive from Caernarfon and has easy access to plenty of attractions and activities for those who want to take things up a notch. This is a popular area for walkers, climbers and riders, with footpaths, quiet roads and bridleways leading through scenic countryside and on up into the mountains. The site has secure bike storage, along with shelter and turnout for horses if needed. Glamping tents have access to compost toilets, solar outdoor showers (available in high season), camp kitchens with gas cooker, and firepits for nights under the stars (logs are sold on site). When available, free-range eggs and free-range pork (think sausages, bacon, chops, belly etc), vegetables and fruit can be bought from the site owners. Freshly baked bread can be ordered for the mornings (is there a better smell to tempt you out of bed?) and there are also plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby if you’d rather leave the cooking to someone else.

Local attractions

This is a great base for exploring Snowdonia National Park – and there are plenty of ways to do so. The lakes, rivers and coastline make watersports and fishing a fine choice. If you prefer dry land, Snowdonia is renowned for its walking and climbing, and guests can walk onto Cefn Du, Moel Eilio and onto the Snowdon Massif straight from the site. The local road and path network have safe cycle and horse riding routes too if you want to mix it up a bit. About five minutes away is the Welsh Highland Railway station at Waunfawr, where historic steam engines await you... and a more relaxed way to take in your surroundings, with a buffet service and fully licensed bar to boot. Caernarfon’s many attractions are also easily reached – 10 minutes' drive will get you to Caernarfon Castle or to an indoor climbing centre and indoor karting centre – handy if you want to blow off steam come rain or shine. There’s also a vineyard and orchard in Caernarfon where you can treat yourself to a glass of cider or wine (or two…) in a gorgeous setting.
