  • Secluded yurt on a smallholding opposite a stream in an old orchard
  • A five-minute drive to Church Bay and 20 minutes to Holyhead town
  • Accommodation includes a private kitchen, shower and outdoor firepit
Embrace island life (with a Welsh twist) on a trip to Anglesey Yurts – this laidback site's in a secluded setting in an old orchard that's part of a smallholding about a five-minute drive from Church Bay. The owners reckon this spot in the North Wales Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a proper suntrap, so spread out in the open air and take advantage of the mild Anglesey climate, settling in on the park's hammock or hanging seat and chucking some logs on the firepit if a bit of a breeze comes in from the coast. Outdoor facilities don’t stop there: your yurt also comes with a barbecue, a picnic table and a private enclosed shower, and inside there's a kitchen with a full-size cooker, fridge and electric kettle (plus a stack of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans). Wood and kindling are provided too (you need only bring the matches) and a plumbed-in washing machine is on hand for getting the laundry done if you’re staying for a while. It's highly likely you’ll want to eke out your trip for as long as possible here, as there’s much to do across this stunning island, from watersports – think sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking – to wandering along the 18-mile-long North Anglesey Heritage Coast path running from Church Bay to Dulas. Admire the views over rugged cliffs and drop in on hidden coves along the way, then return to the site and snuggle in among the apple trees and blackberry bushes to plan tomorrow’s escapades...

Route directions

Satnav tends to send you to the wrong place once you leave the main road towards Rhydwyn. From here, follow the road into the village and turn right when you see the chapel then follow the road for approximately 200 metres. The farm is on the right-hand side – follow the track into the farmyard. Parking for the yurt is at the bottom of the farmyard.

Local attractions

Got a few days to spare? Spend them trotting along the round-island Anglesey Coastal Path, taking in archaeological and heritage sites along the way. Or skip the strolls and head straight for the 13th-century Beaumaris Castle (45 minutes’ drive) to climb the walls, or seek out ancient burial chambers like the Barclodiad y Gawres (half an hour) near the top-notch Traeth Llydan beach. Over in the north west, peer at the puffins – using the binoculars supplied – at the RSPB reserve in South Stack (half an hour), dropping by the Holyhead Maritime Museum (25 minutes) on your way home to learn about the island’s seafaring history. To poke into the past even more, go inland to the Amlwch Copper Kingdom – where locals mined copper for Nelson’s fleet – for walks with views out over a moonlike landscape in a rainbow of colours. If you’d rather angle than amble, sea and coarse fishing is also available on the island – ask on site for recommendations.
