  • Stays in a large, secluded meadow surrounded by fields and woodland
  • Four miles to Carmarthen and a 30-minute drive to Pembrey Country Park
  • Kitchen, communal log cabin and pizza oven, zipwire and swings
Snuggle under the stars at the relaxing setup of Cwm Ty Coed on a weekend away in West Wales, a 30-acre smallholding amid a meadow and mature woodland and with spectacular views of the surrounding area. Ace amenities at this park in Carmarthenshire include a communal log cabin with sofas, games and a woodburning stove for spending quality time together as a family. There's also a kitchen with two cast-iron cooking rings, as well as room to eat under shelter (firepits are around the grounds as well if you’d rather feast outdoors). A pizza oven is also available to guests. While you hunker down in a hammock for an after-dinner snooze, send the younger members of your group off to say hello to friendly farm animals (including donkeys Lily and Misty) or into the woods to launch themselves onto the zipwire (for ages 8 and over) and swings. Acres’ worth of walks are also among the trees for trotting on pretty trails and the site’s four miles from the thriving market town of Carmarthen with its shops, restaurants and cafés if you’re wanting to wander around the produce markets. For trips of a less practical nature, also around the local area are activities including mountain biking and horse riding, while coasteering, sailing, kayaking and seal spotting on the coast are around 30 minutes’ drive away. Take the mutt with you to mosey around the local area if you like – well-behaved dogs are allowed to come along on a hol at Cwm Ty Coed. Other facilities at this site include well-kept compost toilets, gas-powered showers and barbecues.

Local attractions

Kids clamouring to be king of the castle? Carmarthenshire has 12 of these historical buildings for small fry to try and commandeer. One’s over in Laugharne, 25 minutes’ drive away, a lovely village that also houses poet and writer Dylan Thomas’s boathouse with its gorgeous views over the estuary. Other parts of the coast including Pembrey Country Park, with its miles of sandy beaches, are about half an hour’s drive away. Meanwhile, Llansteffan (25 minutes) has a cracking coastal walk with coves to climb between, and many beaches along the Gower and Pembrokeshire shorelines are under an hour away. If that sounds too sedate for your thrill-seeking needs, embrace adrenaline-spiking adventures among the trees on Brechfa Forest’s mountain bike trails, half an hour north-east of the park – ask Cwm Ty Coed staff about the chances of sorting out some discounted cycle hire for freewheeling along the Millennium Coastal Path too...

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or campervan pitch (woodland)

Liked: What a beautiful and peaceful campsite. They couldn't have provided us with anything else, hot sure, clean toilet. full kitchen- including sponge and washing up liquid. Firewood and a BBQ. The donkeys are lovely and the log cabin/games room was a great addition. Kids loved it. we will be back!
