  • Glamping site on an organic farm amid stunning open countryside
  • Just over four miles from the secluded seaside town of Llansteffan
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen, walking paths and wildlife-filled ponds
Bounce between the countryside and coast of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire with a stay at Hill View Glamping – this site is on an organic farm close to the border between these two cracking counties. Wandering through lush scenery is possible without setting foot outside this park: the farm’s walking paths and trails go past pretty spots like two wildfowl ponds that are habitats for mallards, moorhens, dragonflies and butterflies. While on your strolls, turn your gaze skywards from time to time to see if you can catch a glimpse of the red kites that often fly overhead. Another first-rate way to spend your time at this site is to chill out among the greenery with a meal made in the shared kitchen – it has a four-ring electric cooker, grill and oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster, crockery and cooking utensils. Alternatively, travel to Llansteffan, the nearest village at four miles away, for beach and castle walks followed by pub dinners. And if you want to venture further afield? The farm is a stellar starting point for exploring much of south and west Wales: it’s less than an hour’s drive to the buff beaches around the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and 40 minutes to the Carmarthenshire section of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Kid-friendly attractions are also easily accessible, with Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm both a 35-minute drive away. A toilet block with hot showers is at the site, along with a washing-up area. The owners also allow dogs and barbecues.

Local attractions

Craving culture? Head to the market town of Carmarthen (a 15-minute drive away) for the ruins of a castle – one of 600 still left in the country – and a county museum exhibiting national art. Follow up such educational endeavours with a ride past fields and woodland-covered scenery while skirting the River Gwili on the vintage steam trains that leave from town. Or journey to the coast instead: poet Dylan Thomas’s former home and writing shed is in Laugharne, a 20-minute drive away, with stonking views across the estuary leading to Carmarthen Bay. The writer’s birthplace is 50 minutes’ drive away in Swansea, along with the industrial-themed National Waterfront Museum (free entry – bargain) and the city’s sweeping bay with its tidal lagoon. To spend days at the seaside nearer the site, Pendine Sands is half an hour’s drive away – potter to the pub while you’re here for the displays that celebrate the world’s first land-speed record being achieved on the beach in 1924.
