  • Luxury glamping accommodation on a 20-acre family smallholding
  • Half an hour from beaches and wildlife-spotting boat trips
  • Off grid site with solar and wind power; eggs and honey for sale
Off grid yet comfy and luxurious, rural and spectacularly scenic yet within easy reach of all sorts of attractions… Larkhill Tipis and Yurts makes an excellent base for your west Wales larks. Accommodation here is a swish collection of glamping units, all crafted on site at Larkhill and placed in choice secluded spots around this 20-acre family-run smallholding. A network of stepping stone paths connects them all together; other paths meander off into four acres of woodland where tiddlers can build dens, clamber about at the play area or seek out the carved characters lurking among the trees. Such a gorgeous woodland habitat deserves to be preserved, and so the folk here have done their best to keep their place eco friendly: the whole site is off grid and run entirely through solar and wind power. Low-impact amenities are in the central log cabin, where there’s a power supply, a small kitchen area and a communal lounge area, as well as hot showers and a compost toilet (plus a proper flushing toilet for those who prefer). Fellow residents here include a flock of rare-breed Boreray sheep and free-range chickens and ducks; free-range eggs are available for sale along with local honey. There’s also a stash of firewood for guests to use for campfires and barbecues (pick up all necessary edibles at the supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away in Newcastle Emlyn).

Local attractions

Wales is well known as a land full of sheep (three woolly ones to every person at last count…), so it’s hardly a surprise to find that the wool business is an important one for the local area. Celebrating it all is the National Wool Museum in a restored mill 10 minutes’ drive away; if you’re heading up there to play with the interactive displays (or buy some of those gorgeously soft blankets), the start point for the Teifi Valley Railway is nearby There are also horse-riding activities on the nearby Llanllwni Mountain (around 20 minutes) Sheep aren’t the only creatures you might spot around these parts though: Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (50 minutes away) is home to all sorts of exotic beasts, and boat trips from New Quay (half an hour away) sail to a patch of sea that’s a fave for dolphins and porpoises. While you’re over that way, a detour to the sands of Aberporth or Llangrannog beaches is always a fine prospect. And on top of all that… how about canoeing on the River Teifi from Llechryd (25 minutes), a visit to the ruins of Cilgerran Castle (half an hour) or pottering through the lush National Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes)...?
