Three generations of the same family have been welcoming visitors with the best in Welsh hospitality at Erwlon Farm Caravan & Camping Park, which sits alongside their working dairy farm. Erwlon is a high quality yet affordable holiday park welcoming families. The pitches are encircled by woodland, the recently-upgraded facilities are of an excellent standard with immaculate and cosy family shower/bathrooms, laundry facilities, fridges and freezers. There's also a dedicated disabled toilet/shower room which is accessible by wheelchair users. The only noise you’re likely to hear of an evening is the tinkling of water from the neighbouring brook so sit back, relax and enjoy.

Route directions

Erwlon is located a mile east of Llandovery off the A40 when heading towards Brecon. The caravan site is well signposted with tourist signs from the A40 approximately 600 metres from the site entrance and again immediately opposite the junction off the main road. The turning off the A40 takes you onto an unclassified road for about 50 metres before you reach the entrance.

Local attractions

For anything else you need, it only takes a few minutes to amble into the market town of Llandovery, where three rivers converge: its Welsh name is Llanymddyfri, “the church and the waters”. The heritage centre here will enthrall visitors with local legends about the Robin Hood of Wales, Twm Sian Catl, before they track down his cave hideout in the nearby hills. Wildlife buffs will not have to venture far from their pitch to spot some impressive raptors on the hunt, or to snatch a sighting of the local kingfishers and mink along the banks of the river. For energetic types, there are mountain biking, pony trekking and walking trails in the immediate area; as well as good golfing, and the chance to snare a sea trout or salmon on the River Towy. Serious hikers, take note: Erwlon sits at the foot of the Brecon Beacons, and is also close to the Cambrian Mountains, so there are some first-class walks in easy reach. For mountain biking Erwlon is conveniently located to visit Bike Park Wales, Brechfa, Llanwrtyd (Irfon) and the Afan routes and you can cycle to Cwm Rhaeadr directly from the park. When you return from your ride Erwlon can provide bike wash and secure storage facilities. Those who prefer gentler pursuits can visit the National Botanic Garden of Wales or the sixteenth century gardens at Aberglasney House. If the children are getting historical, there are no less than seven castles scattered around the Camarthenshire countryside to calm them down. Other worthwhile trips include: a walk through cathedrals of stalactites and underwater waterfalls at the National Showcaves of Wales (Dan-yr-Ogof); panning for treasure at the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, which have been spitting out Welsh Gold for more than 2,000 years, and originally furnished the Roman mint; going down the Big Pit at the National Coal Museum; riding the rollers at the screamingly exciting Oakwood theme park; or simply driving to the coast just over an hour away, for more birdwatching, as well as dolphin spotting, jet boating and much more.
