  • Handcrafted yurts on a peaceful and secluded organic farm
  • A 45-minute drive from the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire coasts
  • Private terraces, communal roundhouse kitchen; footpath to the pub
Unleash your inner nomad at Fron Farm Yurt Retreat… this fab site in Carmarthenshire is on an organic farm, overlooking a wooded valley with views towards the Preseli mountains. Cosy and comfy yurts are the order of the day here, with private terraces for soaking up those grand Welsh vistas and for spotting red kites and buzzards circling in the skies above. Guests are welcome to roam the pastures and woods belonging to the farm too, which include the ruins of a 14th-century church as well as a footpath leading, as all good footpaths should, to a local pub (in Llanboidy, just under 10 minutes' drive away). Those too young to appreciate pubs need not fret, for there's a pirate ship playground to clamber about on back at the farm, as well as a mostly free-roaming assortment of sheep, goats and chickens to make friends with. By arrangement, you and the brood can go foraging for freshly-laid eggs or watch the goats being milked. If that’s given you an appetite, avail yourself of the communal wooden roundhouse kitchen, or take a 20-minute trip to St Clears for foodie pubs plus supermarkets and takeaways.

Local attractions

It’s around 45 minutes’ drive to some of Pembrokeshire’s top spots for beach walks and watersports: paddleboarding is the popular way to get round the coast and up the creeks at Saundersfoot, while you can try watersports of all sorts, from jetskis and wakeboarding to windsurfing and sailing, at Tenby. To take in the waters at a gentler pace, catch porpoise-spotting sea safaris and coastal cruises from Tenby, or be ferried out to peaceful Caldey Island, where seabirds nest and the monks do a nice line in chocolates and perfume. For adventures on dry land, the family-friendly trio of Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm and Heatherton World of Activities has a heady mix of rides, furry creatures, funfairs and adventure sports, all between half an hour and 40 minutes’ drive away. For yet more stimulation after that, try skiing or snowboarding down the slopes at Llangrannog Ski Centre (50 minutes). If you’re after a hit of history, the immersive Iron Age experience at Castell Henllys and clambering the craggy ruins of Cilgerran Castle are both half an hour away, or you could tour the prehistoric caverns and spooky dungeons underneath Pembroke Castle (45 minutes). If it’s walks you’re after, there’s a trail around the pretty fishing village of Laugharne (30 minutes), taking in the Norman castle, various spots linked to famous former resident Dylan Thomas and finishing, aptly enough, at the bard’s favourite bar. Or for westerly sea views and clifftop wilderness wanders, head to Pen Cemaes (45 minutes) and join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
