  • Family-run farm welcoming guests since 1976
  • Private fishing lake and private bathrooms
  • Access to an 18-hole parkland golf course
With the kids out of bounds, a little birdie might tell you that guests at adults-only Wernddu Farm Golf Club could be in for a treat. Owned by three generations of the same family, not only is the long-established and welcoming site (which first opened its field back in 1976) right next to a golf course, but its private fishing lake also makes sure things are perfectly above par for grown-ups. Guests can swing to Wernddu Farm Golf Club to take advantage of a range of facilities which the managers have got down to a tee: private bathrooms with toilets, showers and wash basins, and separate areas for him and for her with mirrors, plugs for hairdryers and shaver points. Alongside their handy amenities, Wernddu Farm has access to an 18-hole parkland golf course, a driving range and a nine-hole pitch and putt course (extra charges apply) - all of which are just opposite the park, so all you need do is secure yourself a reliable caddy to keep up. The on-site clubhouse is open all day and serves hot food over lunchtime. A little word of warning – the views from the site over the Black Mountains and Usk Valley may just distract you from beating your par, but you'll probably think it’ll be well worth it…

Local attractions

Spanning part of the Welsh-English border, the little town of Abergavenny not only sits at the 'Gateway of Wales’ but also at the foot of the mountains, and to get to this interesting little town from the site will take just over five minutes by car, or around a healthy 45-minute walk if you’d rather explore by foot. A 10-minute drive by car from the site and you’ll reach the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Just over 20 minutes’ drive south-west will take you to the World Heritage Site at Blaenavon Ironworks, the setting for BBC’s Coal House, and where you can explore the remains of the furnaces and the restored Water Balance Tower. Reconstructions and exhibitions will ensure the kids are kept busy taking in a fair few facts too. Roam about to the Roman baths, fortress and amphitheatre at Caerleon, about half an hour by car southward from Wernddu Farm, or step back in time 900 years at the Tretower Court and Castle which has been home to many a well-to-do Welsh family over the centuries, about 13 miles north-west of the site in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail can be reached from Wernddu Farm - drive south to Chepstow to start the trail from its beginning, or join it as it passes Monmouth.
