  • Family-run riverside site in the Vale of Usk and Wye valley
  • Four miles from Monmouth and a minute's walk from the village shop
  • Walkers' paradise near the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons
Near Monmouth and Raglan Castle (both fab, both recommended), in the Vale of Usk and the Wye Valley, bordered by the Trothy river and backed by dense woodland… lies Bridge Caravan Park and Camping Site, in the Monmouthshire countryside near the small village of Dingestow. You're sorted here whether you want to laze around on site, get active or sightsee in the surroundings without having to drive too far – or dip into day tripping around Cardiff, the Forest of Dean, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Pony trekking, fishing, rafting, museums and Roman remains are all nearby too. Supplies (and a peaceful vibe) are easily sorted for days around the site, at the well-stocked accessory shop for camping bits and pieces, and the village shop a minute's walk away. The local pub serves food and has a beer garden. This family-friendly park has plenty of room for rambling, around the grounds and the dog exercise field; there's fishing available for guests, and several walking and cycling trails lead from the site or are within easy reach. Among the amenities at Bridge Caravan Park are a well-maintained washroom block with toilets, washbasins and hot showers, an accessible bathroom, a washing-up area and a launderette with a deep sink, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Local attractions

The town and castle of Raglan are within five miles of the park, close to the county town of Monmouth and its Fair Trade shopping, markets, Savoy Theatre (probably the oldest in Wales) and access to canoe and kayaking trips along its waters, where the Monnow river meets the Wye. The medieval walled town of Abergavenny is about 20 minutes' drive away, to Monmouth's west. Hailed as a gateway to Wales, it provides access to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park, and is passed through by the Marches Way, the Beacons Way and the Usk Valley Walk. Crickhowell, named after the Iron Age hill fort of Crug Hywel above the town, is within about half an hour's drive. Outdoor activities? Plenty are around, such as hiking and mountain biking in the Forest of Dean, or rafting and fishing on and in the Wye, both available within about 20 minutes by car. For a gentler outdoor time, have a canal boat day trip on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, 17 miles away. Cardiff is just under an hour's drive away; if you can't be faffed with city parking, it's about an hour and a half by bus and train from local village Dingestow, changing an hour into the journey at Newport.
