  • Dog-friendly Pembrokeshire site on the edge of Lamphey
  • Tenby, Pembroke, Carew and stunning beaches all within 10 minutes
  • Modern amenities, guest kitchen, firepit hire and logs/kindling sales
Castles, coast, stunning views… you'll tick these off within easy reach of any base in Wales: no-one should ever get to say 'Are we there yet' in this fably compact land. But how much handier again to have a seaside town, golden sands and three tiptop old castles within a short drive… and the activities and splendid sights of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park too. Step forward, Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping between peaceful countryside and spectacular coast – this lush and award-winning site has the aforementioned lot within a short drive. The farm's setting on the outskirts of Lamphey village puts it within 15 minutes' drive of Tenby (and its beach and medieval walls), the stunning golden sands of Barafundle Bay and the aged castles of Manorbier, Pembroke and Carew (must-sees, all). Freshwater East beach, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is five minutes' drive away. All this, and campfires too. Blazing up your own flames is encouraged at Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping: just hire a firepit and buy logs and kindling on site. Home-cooked and home-reared eats are available from outside caterers during school holidays and bank holiday weekends, or you can sizzle up supper for yourself using your alfresco flames or the communal kitchen with double electric hob (and two fridges, freezer and washing-up sink). A shop and a bakery are a couple of minutes' drive away at Lamphey. It's a pick-your-own-pitch setup here, with access to modern amenities including seven hot showers, separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets and a chemical disposal area. The site encourages recycling, laying on daily bin collections so guests can be green with ease. A village pub is within walking distance.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely pod. Cost abd had everything provided. Staff were helpful and flexible with the booking

Disliked: Could have been better lit up and signposted as we had difficulty finding the pods in the dark. It was rather wet so we had to carry all our items through the field to the pod

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Easy, relaxed check-in, choice of great places to park up, tranquil location with just the noises of farm and country life and the occasional train. All the facilities were clean and as expected on a rural farm site (not plush but if you want plush, ditch the tent and book into a hotel!). Real bonus was a container kitchen so if you couldn't be bothered to crank up the camping gas for a cup of tea you could use the kitchen kettle. Even better was fridge and freezer facilities - not available on my previous site, which was considerably more expensive. Good hot showers. No water pressure issues or annoying timed cut offs (although the lights are motion sensitive and go off after a while so you have to move to get them back on again or you'll be showering in the pitch black!). I managed to choose the only shower cubicle where the head had a broken hook so I had to hold it but it wasn't a major issue. I thought having an onsite cafe was a great option but didn't have the opportunity to pay a visit on this trip.

Disliked: I disliked the fact that I'd only booked one night!

Liked: Good facilities and clean.

Disliked: Grass quite long so when morning dew came, made toilets very muddy and grassy from our shoes. Didn’t see any staff members during stay so didn’t get much of a welcome.

Liked: We stayed in the bell tent and it was absolutely perfect, so spacious and not over crowded in the field. The stay was amazing for our 4 year old who hadn’t been camping before. She loved it! We will definitely be returning.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed the site, they aloud for a family member to drop off the caravan, we were able to pick our own pitch close to an electric hook up which was perfect. We really liked the fact that you had to park your car in the carpark apart from loading and unloading, which was great as it aloud children to play freely without the worry of cars. Staff where lovely and friendly, helped with any problem that we had during our stay. Facilities were excellent toilets clean, soap and hot water. Showers were super hot and the family showers had lots of space. The cafe was lovely we had breakfast lunch and tea there over our week stay. Live music most nights too which was lovely. Overall a lovely stay and we can't wait to book again

Local attractions

Tiptop Tenby, one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Pembrokeshire coast, is seven miles or 15 minutes' drive from the farm. Parking can be tricky in high season so the Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping owners recommend getting the train from Lamphey: once in town, there are two and a half miles' worth of beaches to roam, a handsome centre with independent shops, cafés and restaurants to potter around, medieval town walls including the Five Arches to snap pics of, and the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery for cultured hours and souvenirs. Boat trips leave from Tenby's harbour to Caldey Island. More popular spots nearby are Manorbier beach and castle, and the famed sands of Freshwater East, a long stretch of beach that's a top pick for sea swimming; both are four miles or under 10 minutes' drive away. From Barafundle Bay (15 minutes), hike the clifftop path for about 20 minutes to Stackpole Quay and its tearoom – or park at Stackpole and hike to Barafundle and back again. The surfing waves of Freshwater West are 20 minutes' drive away.
