  • On a 250-acre National Trust farm with stunning sea views
  • Wildlife haven five minutes' walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Firewood or charcoal available to buy for campfires and barbecues
In an utterly lush location just four miles north of St Davids, Celtic Camping in Pembrokeshire is based on the 250-acre working and wildlife-laden National Trust farm of Pwll Caerog, part of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. And then there’s the beach: the pebbly cove of Aber Pwll is at the foot of the farm about five minutes’ walk away. You’ll be reeling with glee at the views from all around here, right across the Irish Sea and Abereiddy Bay with slate quarry-filled Blue Lagoon, a deeply desirable spot for diving and twice host of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. If you want walkies, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about 500 metres from the farm and coastal trails run from Abereiddy to the village of Porthgain in one direction, and to Whitesands Bay via St Davids Head in the other. This is a relaxed and friendly site with loads of space for all: dogs, families, individuals and couples included. Toilets and showers are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis by a dedicated cleaning team. During peak season, the site opens up a restaurant for breakfast and evening meals. There's a shop on site during high season, as well as musical entertainment every Saturday evening during the summer months. The site also has a large temporary indoor dining area, but you might reckon this is one of the most viewsome places around to eat alfresco: campfires and barbecues are – naturally – allowed, and firewood or charcoal can be bought from the amiable Celtic Camping team.

Upper Abereiddi Field non-electric grass pitch

Liked: We loved everything about the campsite. Beautiful location, as well as lovely clean toilets and showers, WiFi if needed, and lots more. We come to St.Davids over 10 times a year, and stay in lots of different campsites and holiday cottages, and we just fell in love with this campsite. Absolutely stunning.

Disliked: A little more pricey than our usual campsites that we stay in. But we absolutely loved the facilities and understand why it’s a bit more pricey.

Liked: Myself and my brother had planned to go camping at the campsite at the end of December with the unfortunate realisation that the storm that occurred during the day of travelling would have made the camping experience miserable due to the poor conditions for camping due to the weather. The owner Ian fortunately gave us a helping hand as we were lost finding the site, as well as providing useful information immediately and answering any question we had. He also kindly offered us to stay in the ensuite accommodation as a substitute 'free of charge' as a lovely gesture to make up for the poor conditions to camp. He provided myself with a informative tour of the facilities and answered all my questions I had - having a nice chat with him. Despite our inconvenience of arriving at the site at 9:00PM. The accommodation provided us with all the facilities we needed from sanitary, to kitchen facilities, games and lounge area. Would highly recommend the site to other campers and explorers as the owner was very friendly. The next morning, my and my brother went on the coastal walk along the site that the owner recommended, and we don't regret it one bit as the walk was amazing!

Liked: The whole, place was relaxed and friendly. We only stayed one night, but had a beautiful view out to sea Shower blocks and toilets very clean and water hot. The smell of wood smoke drifting on the air from the working wood yard. Excellent stay for an out of season break. St. Davids 7 mile downbthe Road and well worth the visit.

From the manager: Dear Rebecca, thank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing your experience with us. We’re thrilled to hear that you found the place to be relaxed and friendly, it is something we strive for. It’s great to know that you enjoyed the beautiful view of the sea from your pitch as just about every pitch on-site has amazing sea views. We’re also glad that you found the shower blocks and toilets to be clean and the water was hot, our lovely friendly cleaning staff will be pleased to hear this as they work hard to provide an excellent service and we will ensure that it is passed on to them. The smell of wood smoke from the working woodyard must have been a unique experience for you especially with us being on the coast. We are fortunate to also run our firewood processing business Pembrokesire Logs from this site, which is where our logs or purchased for our campers. We’re happy that you had an excellent stay for an out-of-season break and we truly hope that you will return in the future, especially as we are open all year round. St Davids is indeed a lovely place to visit, the 12th Century Cathedral is stunning and we’re glad that you found it worth the trip. I will though need to resubmit my mileage allowance claim, as I've only been claiming 3.6 miles, clearly over the years it must have moved and I'll now put in 7 miles although I'm not sure the boss will argee with you 🤣🤣👏 We hope to see you again soon warmest regards John

From the manager: Dear Lucy, Thank you for taking the trouble to produce this review and for sharing your experience with us. We’re thrilled to hear that you found the place to be lovely and overlooking the coastline, we are blessed with stunning sea views from just about every location on site. It’s great to know that you had easy access to the coastal path and we are very fortunate that our land joins the path at the bottom of the farm, which is great for those who wish to get out and explore our stunning coastline. The one advantage we have especially if you are not tied to an electrical hookup pitch, is we have loads of room on site and you can choose where to pitch your tent. Given how hard our dedicated cleaning team work, we are extremely pleased that the toilets and showers were immaculate and that the staff were helpful and kind. We put a significant effort into ensuring are customer services are spot-on and I will ensure that your lovely remarks are passed on to them We’re happy that you enjoyed your stay and that you would definitely come back, we are open all year round and it will be great to see you again. Warmest regards John

Local attractions

Coasteering, kayaking, sailing, surfing, rock climbing and other hair-raising and scenic adventures are all around, with several activity centres easily reachable from Celtic Camping; the site staff can arrange something for those who’d like to plunge in. If you’re taking to the area under your own steam, Pembrokeshire has dozens of eye-wateringly pretty beaches to pick from: award-winning Whitesands, about 40 minutes’ walk from Abereiddy Bay, is a hit with surfers for the breaks on its northern end. A little further along the coast from Whitesands and towards the north end of St Brides Bay on St Davids Peninsula, slip around to the fishing village and harbour of Solva to drop jaw at the views around the Griben coastal walk. Pick up freshly dressed Pembrokeshire crab at the village seafood shop for later back at the barbie: three pubs, two cafés and two restaurants are around too for a pitstop. The Puffin Shuttle coastal bus goes from Solva to Britain’s smallest city St Davids three times a day in summer: get the early one to see the cathedral properly as well as Bishops Palace beside it.
