Walkies! Teifi Valley Camping Pods in west Wales is just the place for the pooch: it has mini pods available for the discerning dog, is surrounded by seven acres of grassland and woodland, and is close to the Ceredigion Coast Path with 65 miles of routes to roam. Tails will wag. The pods are on the Ceredigion coast and are a couple of miles from the sandy beaches of Aberporth and Tresaith; there’s another walk of about a mile between the two villages, and walks around New Quay and Cardigan Bay to see one of only two resident groups of bottlenose dolphins in the UK – plenty of walkies to keep canine glampers happy. Please note that there are strictly no dogs allowed in the pods, but you may rent a dog pod if you wish to bring your furry friend with you on holiday. Human podders will be glad to put their feet up at Teifi Valley after getting back from the hikes: the cosy camping pods come with heater and kettle, and are in the grounds of The Gogerddan Arms, a family-friendly pub and restaurant with adjacent lounge, a bar with Sky TV and a roomy car park. Meals are made from locally sourced produce and include Sunday roasts; there are pizzas to take away too. If the kids (and the dog) still have excessive energy, there’s a big playground outside the pub: send them there while you sit back with sore feet and a soothing cocktail...

Local attractions

There are wonderful walkies all around here on the Ceredigion Coast Path, covering a range of landscapes including cliffs, bays, seaside villages and beaches. From Tresaith there’s a mile and a half stretch on to Penbryn and its National Trust beach; Bond fans might be stirred to know that this was the place for location filming in Die Another Day. From Penbryn there are another couple of short walks to Llangranog and Cwmtydu, and then a four-mile stroll to seaside town New Quay with its lovely harbour and sandy beach. The biggest bee farm in Wales, New Quay Honey Farm, is nearby and has a live bee exhibition and mead, beeswax and honey for sale. The Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre is also at New Quay, to arrange dolphin, seal and porpoise spotting boat trips of between one and eight hours. Prefer to get a bit wetter? Drop in on Cardigan Bay Watersports for watery sessions and courses for all abilities. In the other direction along the coast from New Quay, the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park has on-land and non-local critters like a llama and wallaby to see as well as the native seals and dolphins. There’s an open all year nature reserve, the Welsh Wildlife Centre, alongside the River Teifi in nearby Cilgerran; have a pause in the town to see the ruins of the thirteenth century Cilgerran Castle. Castle connoisseur? There are several others in Ceredigion, or go along to one of the most popular historical attractions in the area, the ‘castle of the court’ and Iron Age hill fort Castell Henllys between Cardigan and Newport, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the only one of several forts in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park where visitors can grind flour and make bread like the long-ago Celts.
