  • Quiet caravan park under 10 minutes' drive from Hay-on-Wye
  • Shop, petrol station and beauty salon on site
  • Five-minute walk to local pub, restaurants and a gym
Some folk who go off merrily camping are brave enough not to care about their barnet or their looks for the duration. Some, however, are not. (Cough.) If you fall into the latter camp, you might hail the astuteness of the peeps at Millfield Caravan Park near the Brecon Beacons, who've added a beauty salon on site for guests to keep everything looking in fine fettle. You might also think it's mighty clever to have a site so near to bookish Hay, and at the base of the Black Mountains, and close to the mighty River Wye… and really it's a very clever idea to combine mountain/Brecon Beacons/ riverside walks with reading and beering and picnicking. Millfield is in the small village of Three Cocks, only a five-minute walk from its local pub and restaurant, and there's a micro brewery on site if you fancy a drink at your pitch. It's a quiet site with friendly and helpful owners and has pitches in a flat, level field as well as well-kept toilets and a shower. A shop is on site and a garden centre and coaching house are within a couple of minutes' walk.

Local attractions

What a lot there is to do as you wend your way around the Wye region… Millfield Caravan Park is a short distance from the scenic River Wye for fishing and/or dreamy riverside wandering, and is on a local bus route for easy peasyness in getting elsewhere. The Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the bookshop town of Hay-on-Wye are the most popular picks in these parts, but there's a fair bit to do very close to the site too, like a tennis court, climbing centre and gym half a mile away, and fishing and canoeing within a mile. Several walks start straight from the site. Horse riding is available two miles away and waterskiing within five miles. A golf course is 11 miles from the site.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location of Brecon Owner was friendly

Disliked: The site was littered with dog poo on arrival, even very close to the water outlet. Trying to keep our three year old away from it was hard work while pitching up. This was resolved the following day with the owner collecting an actual shovel full while we were packing up to leave. Road noise, but we were aware of this before arrival. Please consider this before booking as the noise was more than we had anticipated. The toilet and shower block could be improved significantly. Not enough electric hook up points. We ended up pitching up very close to another tent to be able to reach the hook up point (with a 15m lead too). We were offered another pitch but this would have been in between a number of caravans which look to have been left there for equity some time and were far from picturesque.

From the manager: Thank you Gareth for your comments, when you arrived on site i didnt tell you to park where you parked so no wonder there was a little noise,as for the toilet and shower block everyone tells me how clean they are. For the dog droppings and as your wife said that i was not in control of the dogs bottom, can i correct you by telling every one two small dog donks thats all not a shovel full, dont come and see us again with you poxy green tent,ps i asked my dog not to poo there again, but he said you looked so unhappy that he thought it would give you something to talk about you moaner ,yours Pete Lewis owner of a great camp site in Threecocks not Threepoos.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely site with views of fields and lots of cows. Really friendly people and Peter the owner was very helpful and friendly. Lots littles villages close by to explore.

Disliked: Close to a busy road which could get noisy at times. If on other side of field wouldn’t of been a problem.
