  • Smart lodges in a spacious Powys park, with spectacular scenery
  • Conveniently located within half a mile of the A44 and A483
  • Peaceful woodland setting, a two-minute drive from the local shop
This part of Wales has more than its fair share of special scenery, but Greenway Manor Lodge Park is located in a particularly pretty spot. Surrounded by gentle Powys hills, the site is also within easy reach of mightier mountains (such as Carneddau, 12 miles to the south). This cluster of pine-built holiday lodges have a cool contemporary finish but blend in to their handsome hillside locale: keep your eyes peeled and you might spot a red kite soaring overhead. The lodges themselves are spacious, airy and kitted out with modern facilities (including a fully-equipped kitchen and TV). They also have plenty of sheltered outdoor space to help guests make the most of their hols. It's a breeze to get here, too: with the A44 and A483 within half a mile, Greenway Manor Lodge Park is a great base to explore the surrounding hills and valleys of Powys, the largest county in Wales. A local shop is handily located in the nearby village of Crossgates, a two-minute drive away. The larger (but still cosy) town of Llandrindod Wells is a 10-minute drive; originally developed as a spa town, it's now home to a range of shops, cafés and restaurants. There's a train station here, too.

Local attractions

Llandrindod Lake Paddle Boats (10 minutes away by road) have fearsome dragon-shaped craft available to rent throughout the school holidays and at weekends. The lake is a scenic spot to explore using boats, bikes or feet, and has a range of clearly marked trails as well as a café. Pack your rod and tackle too: fishing opportunities here may well please visiting anglers. Back in the town of Llandrindod Wells, check out the National Cycle Museum, which is home to historic Victorian two-wheelers and the latest carbon-fibre designs. Radnor Forest, a former royal hunting ground, can be reached within 15 minutes. Names can be deceptive, and this 'forest' is not quite as woody as you might expect: trees are dotted about, but hill farms and moorland predominate. These narrow valleys and gentle rolling hills are a haven for ramblers and cyclists: the seven-mile Radnor Forest Valleys Walk is a great way of getting a feel for the area, and can be joined at the villages of Bleddfa, Llangunllo, Pilleth, Whitton or Cascob. Meanwhile, avid readers should head 20 minutes towards the English border and the market town of Hay-on-Wye, where more than 20 bookshops beckon.

Cedar 2 bedroom lodge

Liked: A lovely Finnish lodge set in open grounds with a very accommodating and welcoming host. Warm, spacious and cosy with good facilities and in a good location, not too far from Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader. If there were any issues the host was happy to sort them straight away. Squirrels and rabbits were commonly seen from the lodge and owls heard at night. Great for the little one.

Disliked: Gas cooker could be upgraded yet still worked for what we needed it for. No nearby walks yet these can be found a short car trip away. No WiFi yet good 4G coverage.
